More than two months after storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) passed, Ms. Vang Thi Dung (26 years old, from Lung Phinh, Bac Ha, Lao Cai ), a worker at Newwing Interconnect Technology Co., Ltd., still remembers every phone call reporting that her house was about to collapse.
Family of 4 stay at someone else's place because they are afraid of a big mountain collapsing down.
Being a poor family living in an ethnic minority area, from Bac Ha market (Bac Ha town), she had to hire a motorbike taxi for about 30 minutes to see her children. The children live with their grandparents in a level 4 house at the foot of a high mountain, surrounded by 3 other households.
After the recent storm, two houses next to the mountain collapsed, and Dung's house is "about to be the same", the walls are cracked, and pieces of cement have fallen to the ground.
“The day the storm hit, it rained heavily, there were landslides in many places, I was scared, all I could do was cry. I called from noon till night but no one reached me.
Luckily she picked up the phone and said she came back from the market and saw cracks in the house. Her two children were even breaking off pieces of cement to play with. I was so anxious but couldn't go home.
The next day, the grandparents took their grandchild to a relative's house for refuge. They were afraid that the high mountain behind the house would collapse and they didn't know what to do," Dung confided.
Fortunately, the Trade Union of Industrial Parks in Bac Giang province guided the company's trade union to review and support union members and workers who suffered heavy losses due to storm Yagi .
In case the house collapsed and could not be repaired, like Ms. Vang Thi Dung, she was supported with 50 million VND.
Immediately, the 26-year-old worker took a day off from work, and the couple went home to ask the commune for a certificate confirming the house was about to collapse. After 2-3 days, she went back to Bac Giang to work because the company was short of workers, but her anxiety was less.
Workers hope the company will have steady work and a Tet bonus.
She confided that the company has been busy lately, with overtime, earning more than 9 million VND/month. After deducting rent and food, she has a few million left over to save along with the union support money to build a new house at the end of the year. "I have to borrow money to build a new house anyway because I'm scared. My children keep crying, and staying at a relative's house is not convenient," said Dung.
Confiding further, she said that she only finished junior high school, followed her parents to work in the fields, and then got married. Two years ago, according to an acquaintance, she went to Bac Giang to work. The couple saved up some money, but the child got sick, there were storms, and the money in the house gradually "flew away".
“I just hope that from now until Tet, I can work overtime regularly and get a bonus like last year. I won’t quit my job because if I don’t work, I won’t have money. My grandparents at home only work in the fields, don’t know Kinh, and rely on my husband and I here,” she confided.

Previously, the Bac Giang Provincial Labor Federation issued decisions to support nearly 370 union members, workers and their relatives affected by storm No. 3. The total amount is over 2.7 billion VND.
Of these, 35 people received financial support to rebuild their houses due to irreparable damage. The amount is 50 million VND/person.
