A difficult sugarcane crop
The localities along the Con River are known as traditional sugarcane growing areas, and farmers here have been attached to sugarcane for many decades. Sugarcane cultivation not only helps to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, but many households have also become well-off.
However, this year's unfavorable weather, due to heavy rain and storms, has affected many sugarcane areas along the Con River.

According to data from Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, the historic floods in late July and early October this year submerged 1,058 hectares of sugarcane, of which 749 hectares were completely submerged and 185 hectares collapsed. After the floods, high humidity caused white cotton mealybugs to appear in large numbers, threatening sugarcane productivity.
In response, the company coordinated with the government and farmers to deploy many synchronous solutions: Providing safe pesticides, organizing training for farmers, using drones to spray pesticides, and at the same time, encouraging the application of biological measures to limit pests in the long term.

Faced with this difficulty, the company has taken many measures to prevent the sugarcane from falling and draining water, such as removing dry leaves, tying sugarcane into clumps, clearing banks, clearing ditches and furrows, and sending agricultural staff to directly support farmers. Sugarcane care solutions are used to provide timely instructions on how to treat sugarcane fields before and after the storm. The company guides farmers to add potassium and biofertilizers, and spray root stimulants to increase resistance.
In particular, farmers are advised to prevent root rot and leaf drying in prolonged wet conditions. These solutions contribute to rapid growth recovery, protecting productivity and quality of raw sugarcane.
In addition to the immediate measures, the company also increased inspections of each growing area, assessed the extent of damage to have appropriate support plans, especially for low-lying sugarcane areas that are prone to waterlogging. Many post-flood care models were piloted, helping farmers improve the resilience of sugarcane. Sharing experiences in field care, canopy creation, nutritional balance and pest monitoring was carried out more frequently, to minimize yield loss in the context of increasingly unpredictable climate change.
According to data from Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, this year due to heavy rain and storms, sugarcane yield is expected to decrease compared to the previous crop (average 58 tons/ha), so raw sugarcane output will also decrease.
Sign a transportation contract for the new crop
To prepare for the new pressing season, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company has proactively mobilized a team of workers and engineers to focus on maintaining and repairing the entire machinery system and production line, ensuring stable operation with a capacity of 3,300 tons/day.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Quy - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Deputy Director of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company said: The factory is in the stage of completing equipment and testing, and adding a number of production lines to improve product quality, meeting market requirements. At the same time, the Company contracts vehicles to transport sugarcane from the fields to the factory; coordinates with local authorities in raw material areas to repair and upgrade internal roads, ensuring convenience for harvesting and transportation in the next pressing season. Dozens of trucks have been contracted to transport sugarcane regularly according to the season.
“
The factory has not yet announced the purchase price of raw sugarcane, but with the goal of mutual benefit for businesses and sugarcane growers, the factory will offer the most suitable price even though the sugar price on the market is not stable. Along with the price policy, we also do a good job of allocating the cutting and importing sugarcane schedule to make it convenient for sugarcane sellers. In the raw material area investment program, every year, the factory has a plan for which area to plant first, which area later according to the harvest plan orientation, to ensure the harmony of interests between businesses and farmers.

As in previous years, in this year's crushing season, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company continues to bring sugarcane harvesting machines to serve farmers. Increasing mechanization in the harvesting stage helps to significantly reduce manual labor, saving costs for farmers, while shortening the harvesting time, ensuring timely supply of raw materials to the factory and improving production efficiency in the entire raw material area.

A representative of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company said that although sugarcane is in the stage of standing sugar, due to the rainy weather this year, white cotton fiber aphids still appear sporadically in some areas. The company recommends that farmers, because the sugarcane harvest lasts from December this year to April next year, should regularly visit the fields, peel and clean up old leaves, create ventilation for sugarcane to absorb light; closely monitor the development of pests and diseases to detect early and handle promptly. If white cotton fiber aphids arise and spread, it will reduce the quality of sugarcane, affect sugar content and cause damage to sugarcane in the following crop.
Therefore, proactive inspection and proper prevention techniques are essential to ensure productivity and production efficiency. At the same time, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company recommends that farmers strictly comply with production contracts with the factory, avoid selling sugarcane to other places, ensure stable output and benefit long-term from reasonable purchase prices.

A sugarcane harvest is approaching, the factory has fully prepared equipment, maintained the production line and built a detailed production plan. Along with the close coordination and compliance with the contract of sugarcane growers, every step from harvesting to transportation is guaranteed. With this careful preparation, it is hoped that the new pressing season will go smoothly, achieving high productivity and quality, while bringing stable benefits to farmers and ensuring raw material sources for the factory throughout the season./.
