Meta (Facebook's parent company) has just announced that it will stop supporting two utilities, the like button and the comment button, on websites outside of this platform after 15 years of existence.
The like button allows users to express their love and agreement with the content on the page; while the comment button allows users to leave comments without leaving the website. These two buttons are common measures of online influence, appearing on most news sites, forums, blogs, e-stores...

Meta will stop supporting two widgets, the like button and the comment button, on websites outside of Facebook from February 10, 2026.
Meta said these two utilities belong to the “old era” of the website and are rarely used, so the company decided to “kill them” to focus on new, more modern tools and features.
After February 10, 2026, like and comment buttons will be automatically hidden, without causing errors or affecting the normal function of the website.
No action is required from the website administrator. At the time of “death”, the like and comment buttons will automatically disappear.
Meta emphasizes that this helps the platform maintain stability and allows developers to optimize their websites without having to rely on old plugins.
The move comes as Meta focuses on developing tools that bring real value to businesses and developers, while investing in future technologies like AI, virtual reality, and the metaverse.
