Accordingly, the world has recorded an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in some countries such as Brazil, UK, Thailand...
In Singapore, according to the Straits Times , the number of Covid-19 cases also increased from 11,100 cases last week to 14,200 cases in the week from April 27 to May 3. The number of people needing intensive care decreased from 3 to 2, and the number of people hospitalized increased from 102 to 133.
The Ministry of Health and the Infectious Diseases Authority of Singapore have identified this as a cyclical condition, similar to other respiratory diseases. The two main circulating variants are LF.7 and NB.1.8, both derived from the JN.1 variant.
As of May 10, Thailand has recorded nearly 53,700 Covid-19 cases and 16 deaths. The increase in Covid-19 cases in Thailand is related to the increase of the XBB.1.16 sub-variant in Thailand.
Since the beginning of the year, our country has recorded 148 sporadic cases in 27 provinces and cities and no deaths. Our country has not recorded any concentrated outbreaks, but there has been a slight increase in the past 3 weeks, with an average of 20 cases/week.
During the week (May 9-16), Hanoi recorded 23 Covid-19 cases. Thus, since the beginning of the year, the city has recorded 37 cases, 0 deaths, down from the same period last year (637 cases, 0 deaths).

The Ministry of Health believes that due to the high level of interaction and travel of Vietnamese people during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the possibility of an increase in cases in our country in the coming time cannot be ruled out. However, there may not be an increase in severe cases due to Covid-19 variants.
In Vietnam, Covid-19 is an endemic disease. To proactively respond to the Covid-19 epidemic, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment recommends that hospitals and health departments review and update their plans for admitting and treating Covid-19 patients based on the forecast of the epidemic situation, avoiding passive and unexpected responses.
At the same time, prepare facilities, isolation areas, medical equipment, and medical supplies to organize admission, isolation, diagnosis, treatment, and infection control.
Hospitals need to strengthen infection prevention measures, especially respiratory infections, to minimize the spread of disease in medical examination and treatment facilities.
In particular, the Department noted the need to ensure safety for patients in high-risk groups (such as pregnant women, people with underlying diseases, serious illnesses, the elderly, etc.), intensive care areas, cardiovascular, artificial kidney, surgery, etc.
Medical facilities also need to seriously implement case reporting according to regulations.
Warning signs of Covid-19
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 has emerged since 2023 and is capable of spreading rapidly. However, there is currently no evidence that this variant causes more severe symptoms and there is currently no new warning for Covid-19 globally.
According to the US National Institutes of Health, the main symptoms of the current Omicron outbreak include high fever, cough, conjunctivitis (with itchy eyes), sore throat, runny nose, stuffy nose, fatigue, body aches, and headache.
The average incubation period is 3.8 days, shorter than previous incubation periods. The average duration of symptoms is 5 days.
