Australia : 95-year-old Claire Nowland dies after being in critical condition for about a week after being tasered by police.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of 95-year-old Clare Nowland in Cooma this evening," New South Wales police said in a statement on May 24.
Hours earlier, the 33-year-old officer who used the Taser on Nowland was charged with reckless endangerment, battery causing serious bodily harm and assault with a Taser. He has been suspended and is scheduled to appear in court on July 5.
Police Chief Karen Webb said Ms Nowland's family had been informed of the allegations against the officer and thanked investigators for their swift action.

Nowland, who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 90 pounds, was tasered by police while holding a kitchen knife at a nursing home. She walked slowly toward the police, using a walking frame. The taser caused her to fall and injure her head, leaving her in critical condition.
New South Wales authorities are under pressure to release body camera footage of the incident. NSW Police have resisted this, with Commissioner Webb saying Ms Nowland's family does not want the footage released. However, Greens MP Sue Higginson submitted a motion to the NSW legislature on 23 May asking for the footage to be made public.
"The refusal to release the video can only be for the wrong reasons. The New South Wales community has a right to know exactly what happened when Clare Nowland was tasered," Mr Higginson said, adding that police reform was needed.
In 2020, six Australian police officers also handcuffed an 80-year-old woman named Rachel Grahame because she took an employee's lanyard.
