This activity aims to concretize Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW dated September 9, 2025, of the Politburo "On some breakthrough solutions to strengthen the protection, care, and improvement of people's health."

People are proactively getting their blood pressure checked.

On May 12th, thousands of people gathered at health centers across the city to have their blood pressure measured, undergo screenings, and receive health advice from medical staff.

Observations at Thanh Khe Ward Health Station and Dien Ban Ward Health Station show that blood pressure checks for residents are conducted according to proper procedures and techniques, ensuring that all steps for confirming and diagnosing hypertension are followed as per guidelines…

Ms. Tran Thi Thu (67 years old, residing in Thanh Khe ward) said: “After having my blood pressure measured and receiving health advice from medical staff, I understand more about the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring. During the blood pressure measurement, I also received advice from medical staff on nutrition and exercise to help me better control my blood pressure.”

According to Ms. Dang Thi Hai Yen, Deputy Head of Thanh Khe Ward Health Station, for cases showing signs of hypertension, the health station will create a management file, as well as organize examinations and screenings; from there, they will guide treatment and refer patients to higher-level facilities when necessary.

To meet the demand for blood pressure measurements in the area during the week, the ward's health station also organized two additional mobile testing points in residential areas and community centers. For those with mobility difficulties, the health station will send staff in coordination with population collaborators and neighborhood group leaders to their homes to measure blood pressure and conduct health checks.

Ms. Dinh Tran Thi Bao Tran, Deputy Head of Dien Ban Ward Health Station - in charge of Dien Ban 1 station, said that in addition to the main station and two other stations, the unit also organizes mobile stations in residential areas to promptly measure blood pressure and provide health advice to people.

“During the first two days of the week-long campaign, hundreds of people came to the Dien Ban 1 health station to have their blood pressure measured by medical staff. While measuring blood pressure, medical staff also advised people on measures to prevent hypertension; guided them on monitoring their blood pressure at home, as well as lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, increased physical activity, and adherence to treatment,” Ms. Tran shared.

Maintain your free blood pressure measurement points.

Dr. Nguyen Dai Vinh, Director of the City's Center for Disease Control (CDC), said that in response to the week, the unit proactively promoted communication and raised public awareness about the importance of blood pressure measurement. At the same time, they coordinated with local health facilities to increase the number of people participating in blood pressure measurements in order to detect and manage the number of people with hypertension in the community.

The center also organizes two blood pressure measurement points, conducts screenings to detect early cases of hypertension, and provides counseling and guidance to the public on hypertension prevention.

"This activity aims to detect early cases of hypertension or those at risk of hypertension in the community in order to provide timely advice, guidance on monitoring, management, and treatment, contributing to limiting complications and reducing the incidence and mortality rates due to hypertension in the city," said Dr. Nguyen Dai Vinh.

According to Mr. Truong Quang Binh, Deputy Director of the City's Department of Health, during the "National Blood Pressure Measurement Week," all public health facilities in the city will organize free blood pressure measurements for the public. Each facility will set up at least one fixed blood pressure measurement point, and depending on the actual conditions, will consider organizing mobile blood pressure measurement points as appropriate.

Following the awareness week, the health sector strives to maintain a number of blood pressure measurement points as regular "Free Blood Pressure Measurement Points," serving people in the community.

According to the World Health Organization, hypertension is on the rise rapidly, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Notably, about 44% of people with the disease are unaware they have hypertension. In Vietnam, a survey of risk factors for non-communicable diseases shows that the prevalence of hypertension in adults aged 18 and over is 26.2%, with the highest rate (51.9%) in the 50-69 age group.
