Together to escape poverty in Lang Son border district

TPO - In recent years, Cao Loc district, Lang Son province has focused on implementing projects to support people in developing production. Thereby, people have had more livelihoods to gradually escape poverty, develop the economy, and build new rural areas.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of Cao Loc District People's Committee, said: From 2022 to now, the locality has implemented more than 50 projects to support community production development and 6 projects to develop production according to value chains for over 1,000 poor households, near-poor households, and newly escaped-poverty households with a total budget of more than 30 billion VND from the state budget. Households are supported with plants, breeds, fertilizers and cultivation and livestock techniques: commercial buffaloes and cows; pig farming; models of planting and caring for chestnut trees, macadamia trees, black canarium trees; models of planting and caring for Bao Lam persimmons; organic care of star anise...

Thanks to the state's financial and scientific support, Mr. Ma Van Lam's family in Hoa Cu commune, Cao Loc district escaped poverty and is one of the typical examples of economic development in the locality.

The production development support models have been implemented in communes and villages with special difficulties, with the active participation of the people, bringing about practical results, promoting the growth and socio-economic development of the district. The implementation of support projects has contributed to creating jobs, increasing income from 10 to 60 million VND/year for each poor household, thereby contributing to reducing the poverty rate in the district.

“In 2023, the total number of poor households in the district was 1,082, accounting for 5.27%. In 2024, the whole district had 465 poor households, accounting for 2.26% (a decrease of 3.01%, equivalent to a decrease of 617 households compared to 2023), reaching the target set by the District Party Committee (a decrease of 3% or more/year). The average income per capita of the district in 2024 reached 43.33 million VND/person, an increase of 4.64 million VND compared to 2023. These are positive signals for Cao Loc”, Mr. Nguyen Van Thinh shared.

In the coming time, Cao Loc district will continue to effectively implement poverty reduction policies; organize the assessment of the results of the review of poor and near-poor households to ensure quality, accurately reflecting the local situation; have appropriate support solutions to the needs of poor and near-poor households, contributing to increasing the effectiveness of support policies. In addition, local authorities and sectors will strengthen the dissemination of the Party and State's poverty reduction policies to the people, thereby arousing and promoting the spirit of effort and self-reliance to escape poverty of the people.
