Determined to lift his family out of poverty and achieve legitimate wealth, after returning to his hometown following his military service, veteran Pham Van Hanh, residing in Hung Dao Dong village, boldly invested 200 million VND to convert 2 acres of low-yield rice fields into dragon fruit orchards and poultry farms, generating a high income. Mr. Hanh shared: "My family's dragon fruit orchard currently has over 500 trees, yielding 7-8 tons of fruit annually. After deducting expenses, we earn nearly 100 million VND in profit. In the farm, I raise 1,000 chickens and ducks, dozens of wild boars, and also build ponds for raising commercial snails." Thanks to diversifying his crops and livestock with high economic value and a stable market, Mr. Hanh has significantly improved his family's economic situation, becoming a prime example of a successful veteran entrepreneur in the locality.

Returning to his hometown after being discharged from the army in 1982, veteran Vu Van Tung, a disabled veteran of category 3/4, residing in Hung Dao Dong village, brought the confectionery making business to the area, creating jobs for 20 workers. Veteran Vu Van Tung shared: "Initially, we used manual methods, and each day our family only produced a few dozen kilograms of confectionery, which we sold ourselves at the market. Seeing that the products sold well, and with the Veterans Association of the commune vouching for us to secure loans from the bank, I boldly invested in building a workshop, buying machinery, and hiring more workers to expand production. Currently, the facility produces 7-8 quintals of confectionery daily, mainly various types of fried dough sticks, supplying distributors inside and outside the province." Mrs. Vu Thi Mo, from To Hieu village, said: "Making confectionery at Mr. Tung's facility is easy work, and the salary is 80,000 VND per day. Mr. Tung has given us elderly people the opportunity to 'live happily, live healthily, and live usefully'."

Even after leaving the military, the camaraderie and fellowship among veterans in Nam Dong Hung commune are always cherished and preserved. They always encourage, unite, and help each other overcome difficulties, develop the economy, create jobs for their comrades, the children of association members, and many local workers, contributing to improving their living standards. Veteran Vu Van Minh, owner of Minh Duc woodworking facility, said: "Having learned woodworking from my time in the military, I chose to make fine art wood products to develop the local economy. Initially, the income was unstable due to manual production. After being regularly encouraged and supported by the comrades in the Executive Committee of the Veterans Association of the commune, I boldly borrowed more capital to invest in machinery, especially an automatic wood cutting and turning machine system. The machine system operates on pre-programmed software, so it has high accuracy and produces quality products. The machine also has an automatic dust extraction system, preventing dust from being released into the environment and ensuring the health of the workers." With the support of modern machinery, the facility produces thousands of wooden products of various types each year, achieving a revenue of approximately 4 billion VND. Currently, the facility provides employment for 8-10 workers, including 4 former colleagues, with an income of 10 million VND per person per month.
Nam Dong Hung commune was formed by the merger of Xuan Quang Dong and Dong Hoang communes. As a result, the commune's Veterans Association has grown stronger with 1,600 members, operating in 23 branches. Mr. Dinh The Tuan, Chairman of the Veterans Association of the commune, affirmed: With the efforts of the soldiers of Uncle Ho's army, and the support of the commune's Veterans Association, the veteran members have built over 20 economic models generating hundreds of millions of dong in income or more, creating jobs for over 300 workers. The number of well-off and wealthy veteran families is increasing; many members have become exemplary figures in the local economic development movement.
