At noon on May 20, Thu Duc City Police (HCMC) were still blocking off the area to investigate a fire at a company in the area.

At around 10:30 a.m. the same day, people discovered smoke and fire rising from SVN Company Limited on Street 40 (An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) and used water and fire extinguishers to put out the fire but failed. Some people in the company panicked and could not escape in time.
Upon receiving the news, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team (PCCC-CNCH), Thu Duc City Police mobilized 7 fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to put out the fire.
While fighting the fire, authorities discovered and rescued a woman trapped in the bathroom. Fire police also guided two other people to safety.
The fire caused no human casualties but some assets in the company were burned down.
