Patient NMT (60 years old, residing in Rach Dua Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) was brought to the hospital by his family in a critical condition: cyanosis of the whole body, cardiac arrest, and respiratory arrest. According to his family, the patient was electrocuted and unconscious about 30 minutes before, while repairing the roof.
Upon receiving the patient, the on-duty team led by Dr. Pham Luong Tri, Chief of the Emergency Department, immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures: chest compressions, electric shock, adrenaline injection, and endotracheal intubation.
After 15 minutes of intensive resuscitation, the patient's heart started beating again, blood pressure stabilized, and reflexes began to appear. The patient was transferred to the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department for further treatment. Currently, his health is stable and he is able to function normally.
Dr. Pham Luong Tri advises: “Time is a vital factor in cases of electric shock causing cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest. Proper first aid at the scene can help save the victim's life before reaching the hospital."
Dr. Pham Luong Tri also noted: it is necessary to immediately turn off the power source, do not touch the victim directly, call 115 emergency, check the patient's reaction. If the victim is not breathing, has no pulse, it is necessary to perform CPR and artificial respiration. If the victim is still conscious, it is necessary to lie still, keep warm and monitor continuously. Do not pour water on the victim and avoid moving if spinal injury is suspected.
