Previously, on October 26, Mr. BVC was admitted to the hospital in a coma, with difficulty breathing, coughing up a lot of blood leading to severe respiratory failure. The patient's arterial blood oxygen concentration (SpO₂) was only 65%, a life-threatening level.

Patient C. was discharged from the hospital on November 11 (Photo provided by the hospital).
The medical team performed emergency treatment to save the patient's life.
Clinical examination and bronchoscopy revealed bleeding from the right lower lobe bronchus. Computed tomography showed localized bronchiectasis in the right lower lobe.
After specialist consultation, the doctors decided to perform endoscopic surgery to remove the right lower lobe of the lung to remove the damaged area, stop bleeding and prevent the risk of respiratory failure recurrence.
On October 29, the surgery was performed successfully, removing the cause of the massive hemoptysis. After the surgery, the patient stopped coughing up blood and recovered quickly.
Dr. Nguyen Luong Tan, Head of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, said that coughing up blood due to bronchiectasis can be treated with bronchial artery embolization or surgery.
In Mr. C's case, the disease progressed rapidly, was life-threatening, and had severe localized damage to one lobe of the lung, so lobectomy was the optimal choice to save the patient's life.
“The patient was elderly and had chronic bronchiectasis. The success of the treatment was the result of urgent and synchronous coordination between the hospital’s departments. In this situation, every minute was crucial to life,” Dr. Tan emphasized.
After many days of treatment, patient C's health has improved, he can breathe, eat and move on his own, and was discharged from the hospital on November 11.
