On the morning of July 20, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Lieutenant Colonel Phan Xuan Luan - political commissar of Thien Cam Border Guard Station (Ha Tinh) - said that the unit had just coordinated with the Thien Cam commune government and fishermen to deploy forces to successfully rescue 34 people whose boat sank at sea.
Accordingly, at around 7:20 pm on July 19, heavy rain and thunderstorms occurred in the coastal area of Thien Cam commune. Many boats did not have time to return to shelter.
At this time, a tourist boat owned by Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoang was on its way to shore when it was sunk by waves in the Boc island area, about 0.5 nautical miles off the coast of Thien Cam.

At the time of the accident, there were 4 crew members and 30 tourists on the boat who were on a squid fishing tour. When the boat sank, all passengers and crew members put on life jackets and jumped into the sea to await rescue.
Upon receiving the news, Thien Cam Border Guard Station promptly deployed forces and coordinated with Thien Cam commune authorities to mobilize large tonnage ships operating near the sunken ship to approach the scene and provide rescue.
However, the rescue work encountered many difficulties due to heavy rain, big waves and taking place at night.
At around 0:30 on July 20, all passengers and crew members on the cruise ship were brought safely to shore by a large fishing boat.
