Special program of cultural exchange between communities practicing the ritual and the game of Sitting Tug of War

HNP - On the evening of November 15, at the tug-of-war ground of Tran Vu temple (Long Bien ward, Hanoi city), an art exchange program took place between communities practicing the Sitting Tug-of-war ritual and game, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of UNESCO's inscription of the Tug-of-war ritual and game into the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (2015 - 2025).

Party Secretary, Chairman of Long Bien Ward People's Council Nguyen Manh Ha and Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ward Party Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Hang presented flowers to 13 units participating in the cultural exchange.

The program was organized by the Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Long Bien Ward in coordination with the Center for Research and Promotion of Cultural Heritage Values ​​(under the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association) with the participation of many artisans, mass actors, art clubs, schools and international delegations, creating a cultural space rich in identity and full of solidarity.

Comrade Pham Thi Bich Hang - Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Long Bien Ward People's Committee delivered the opening speech of the Program.

Speaking at the opening of the Program, Comrade Pham Thi Bich Hang - Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Bien Ward, emphasized the special significance of the Tug of War Ritual and Game in the spiritual life of Vietnamese people.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Bien Ward affirmed: "The Tug of War ritual and game is not only a traditional custom associated with the life of wet rice farming , but also represents the aspiration for a bountiful harvest, favorable weather, solidarity and community strength. UNESCO's recognition of the Heritage in 2015 has contributed to affirming the unique cultural value of the Heritage, and at the same time, posing a great responsibility in preserving and promoting it."

Delegates attending the Program

Comrade Pham Thi Bich Hang also acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of artisans, art clubs, students and the community, showing that the Tug of War Heritage is not only preserved in memory but continues to live on, spreading to younger generations.

The Vice Chairman of Long Bien Ward People's Committee expressed his thanks to the units, communities, schools and Korean art troupes for contributing to creating a meaningful cultural exchange program; at the same time, he affirmed that Long Bien will continue to pay attention and accompany in the work of preserving and promoting the humanistic heritage and community connection of the Tug of War ritual.

Immediately after the speeches, the Organizing Committee presented flowers to congratulate the 13 performing units, opening a series of special performances taking place in a vibrant and culturally colorful atmosphere.

Exchange performances by Korean art troupes such as Samulnori, Samul Pangut, Beona Nori

The cultural exchange program lasted for 20 diverse performances, representing different cultural regions, ethnic groups and art forms. Schools in Long Bien ward brought a series of vibrant and educational performances such as the Medley "Echoes of the festival - We together step into the new era" of Long Bien Primary School; "Bright and prosperous Vietnam" of Cu Khoi Primary School; "The rise of the elite" (Hoa Anh Dao Kindergarten); "The sound of the zither on the fields" (Dong Cuong Kindergarten, Lao Cai); "The triumph of the country" of Doan Ket Primary School; or "The legend of Vietnam takes flight" of Thach Ban A Primary School... All created fresh colors, expressing the creativity and national cultural pride of the young generation.

In particular, the international exchange performances of Korean art troupes such as Samulnori, Samul Pangut, and Beona Nori brought a unique traditional music space with bustling drum sounds, fan dance techniques, and impressive prop performances, creating an important highlight of the show.

The cultural exchange program lasted for 20 diverse performances, representing different cultural regions, ethnic groups and art forms.

The communities practicing the Tug of War rituals and games brought a strong folk atmosphere. The Hoa Loan tug of war community performed the group song "We are Uncle Ho's soldiers" and the solo song "Hanoi, faith and hope"; the Tay tug of war community in Trung Do village impressed with the dances "Dan tinh que em" and "Sac xuan" rich in highland identity. The Tran Vu Temple Relic Management Subcommittee added unique cultural features with "Mua cha pa" and "La co" (Flag), evoking a heroic atmosphere and connecting the community.

The program ended with a bamboo dance exchange between the communities, artisans and participating delegates, before the entire stage joined in singing the song "As if Uncle Ho were here on the great victory day", creating a united, joyful and emotional atmosphere.

With elaborate preparation, the participation of many communities and meaningful international cultural exchanges, the Cultural Exchange Program between communities practicing the Sitting Tug of War Ritual and Game in Long Bien Ward has become an important highlight in the series of activities celebrating the 10th anniversary of UNESCO's recognition of Tug of War as a World Heritage. Thereby, once again affirming the locality's commitment to preserving and spreading traditional cultural values ​​to the community and today's young generation.
