Nghia Son Commune is considered the guava capital of Nghia Dan District. Currently, the whole commune has 150 hectares of guava, spread evenly across the hamlets, of which Son Thuong and Son Ha hamlets have the largest area, with about 80 hectares. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh's family in this commune has 10 years of experience growing guava; currently taking care of 2 hectares of pear guava. Ms. Thanh said that guava has many good characteristics such as short planting and growing time, high fruit set rate and few pests and diseases, and a yield of 15 - 20 tons/ha.

Guava trees grow well in Nghia Dan land, but the worry about output is always present. Ms. Phan Thi Hanh - a guava grower in Nghia Lam commune shared: The biggest concern of guava growers is the unstable consumption and unstable prices. Two years ago, the price of guava dropped to only 5,000 - 7,000 VND/kg. This year, although the price is higher, the amount of guava consumed is still not much.
Realizing that guava growers are fragmented, small-scale, with little capital, and are easily disadvantaged when participating in the market, in 2023, the Nghia Son Guava Growing and Consumption Cooperative was established with 18 households. Members have been fully trained and tightened the process of planting and caring for safe guava, applying scientific and technical advances, aiming to increase the value of local guava products. Also in 2023, the guava of the Cooperative was recognized as meeting the 3-star OCOP standard, but consumption has not yet made a breakthrough.
Mr. Nguyen Van Danh - Head of the Nghia Son Guava Growing and Consumption Cooperative Group shared: "Over the past year, we, together with the local government, have continuously searched, connected, and wanted to bring guava to supermarkets and large supply chains. However, we have not been able to sign a contract with any unit even though the guava is grown according to the correct process, has full labels, and has received large investments. Currently, the output mainly depends on traders. If they do not come to buy, people have to contact their acquaintances and retail...".

In fact, the difficulty in output of Nghia Dan guava products was predicted in advance. When guava prices increased in the period of 2017 - 2018, many households competed to grow guava. Not to mention the later period, when Nghia Dan oranges were degraded and had to be cut down, people also mainly replaced them with guava. From 100 hectares of guava in the period of 2015 - 2017, up to now, the whole Nghia Dan district has up to 700 hectares, of which about 400 hectares are newly planted on degraded orange land. The unplanned guava planting and rapid increase in area have caused consequences when supply exceeds demand and consumption is slow.

Mr. Lam Van Thang - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghia Dan district said: Currently, guava is one of the fruit trees with the largest area in the district. The issue of finding output for this agricultural product is always the top concern of the district. At conferences and fairs connecting supply and demand, localities always bring products to introduce and promote.
In addition to the participation of departments, branches and localities, guava growers also need to adapt to the current booming online business environment, proactively seek partners on e-commerce platforms, to be able to proactively consume products well during each harvest.
