National Assembly delegates offer advice to make Can Tho a growth pole of the Mekong Delta

(Dan Tri) - According to delegate Nguyen Tuan Anh, the Resolution adjusting the National Master Plan needs to have a mechanism for allocating capital based on results, in order to create development momentum for dynamic growth poles such as Can Tho.

This viewpoint was raised by Delegate Nguyen Tuan Anh (Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Can Tho City ) in the discussion session on the morning of November 28, on adjusting the National Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

In addition, Can Tho city plays the role of a regional and national center for science, technology, innovation in agriculture and agricultural services, and is the nucleus promoting digital transformation and developing digital technology industries in the entire region.

“The adjustment of the National Master Plan, especially after the process of arranging provincial administrative units and changes in strategic orientation, has brought new advantages to Can Tho,” said delegate Tuan Anh.

Specifically, compared to the previous planning, Can Tho today has expanded its administrative scope and scale, has advantages of maritime economy and international gateway, completed the transport infrastructure framework, enhanced the role of urban growth pole, positioned as a center of multi-industry processing and manufacturing industry...

However, besides the new strategic advantages, the Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee assessed that the Mekong Delta region still faces great challenges regarding the risk of falling behind.

From this reality, delegates suggested that in the Resolution on adjusting the National Master Plan, it is necessary to continue perfecting mechanisms and policies, including the mechanism of capital allocation based on results, to create strong development momentum for dynamic growth poles such as Can Tho.

Specific mechanisms and policies to promote the formation of large logistics centers in Can Tho and specific projects to form agricultural hubs associated with specialized areas... are also proposals made by Mr. Tuan Anh, along with suggestions that there should be policies to improve social welfare for all people, prioritizing investment in disadvantaged areas to ensure social security.

Practice Concentrating resources on important infrastructure projects in the Mekong Delta

In addition, the delegate suggested that it is necessary to focus on creating a breakthrough in transport infrastructure and irrigation. In particular, he emphasized the orientation of concentrating resources to complete the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway and connecting axes to major transport hubs, speeding up the construction progress of Tran De seaport into a gateway port of the Mekong Delta region.

Mr. Tuan Anh also recommended early determination of the investment roadmap for the railway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Can Tho after 2030, in order to increase the capacity to transport large volumes and reduce logistics costs.

Along with that, according to the leader of Can Tho City Party Committee, it is necessary to soon invest in building anti-flooding works for this locality, as well as building water control works in estuaries and coastal areas to proactively control salinity, store fresh water, and supplement fresh water, and deploy water storage solutions on the river and canal systems in the Mekong Delta region.

Another important orientation, according to Mr. Tuan Anh, is to focus on more strongly developing science and technology and innovation for Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region.

In particular, he emphasized the solution of early investment in upgrading and developing the technology trading floor in the Mekong Delta region in Can Tho to promote technology transfer and commercialization of research results; promote the application of high technology, focus on deep processing, build product brands; develop smart cities and TOD associated with main traffic routes, and at the same time build Can Tho into a smart city.

With these important orientations in the planning, delegate Tuan Anh firmly believes that Can Tho will become the growth engine of the Mekong Delta and an important link connecting Vietnam with the region and the world.
