
The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam solemnly opened on the morning of January 20, 2026, at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. At the opening session, General Secretary To Lam, Head of the Document Drafting Subcommittee, presented the Report of the 13th Central Committee on the documents submitted to the 14th Party Congress.
The report states that the 14th National Congress of the Party has the historical responsibility of establishing "launching pad" policies to successfully achieve the country's two 100-year strategic goals.
The overall objectives are: To maintain a peaceful and stable environment; to achieve rapid and sustainable national development; to comprehensively improve and enhance the people's lives; to be strategically self-reliant, self-sufficient, confident, and to advance strongly in the new era of the nation; to successfully achieve the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030; and to realize the vision of becoming a developed country with high income by 2045, a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilized, and happy socialist Vietnam.
The goal is to achieve an average annual growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP) of 10% or more for the period 2026-2030; and a per capita GDP of approximately US$8,500 per year by 2030.
