The sharp increase in vegetable prices in Dak Lak is due to the impact of the weather, while consumption demand remains high.

Many supply sources are broken.

On November 28, a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper recorded the price situation at some markets in both the West and East of Dak Lak province. According to information from traders, food items such as meat, fish, rice and dried products have not fluctuated significantly. However, the price of green vegetables is showing a strong upward trend.

Trader Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen, who has many years of experience in the vegetable and fruit business, said that in recent days, prolonged heavy rains have led to a disruption in the supply chain. This has caused prices of many types of vegetables to increase dramatically. “ Before the flood, the price increase was not significant. But since storm No. 14 hit, many areas in Da Lat have been affected by landslides and traffic has been cut off, forcing us to find supplies from other places. For example, the price of onions and coriander has increased from 30,000 VND/kg to more than 50,000 VND/kg, while lettuce has also increased by more than 20,000 VND/kg ,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen.

Sharing the same opinion, Ms. Le Thi Hoa, a trader at Chi Lang market (Thanh Nhat ward) also said that although the price of green vegetables has increased sharply, the purchasing power of people has not decreased. “ We import new vegetables every day and sell them all within the day. Although the supply is still maintained, the prices have increased sharply. For example, the price of lettuce and tomatoes has increased from 15,000 to 20,000 VND/kg depending on the type, ” Ms. Hoa shared.

At Tuy Hoa, Binh Kien, and Ward 7 markets in the eastern part of Dak Lak province, prices of livestock and poultry meat remained stable. In contrast, prices of fresh seafood tended to increase slightly. Notably, prices of vegetables, tubers, and fruits increased from 50% to 70%. Some traders at these markets explained that prolonged heavy rains had caused flooding in many areas, leading to insufficient local supply and having to import from other provinces.

Many businesses are still in the recovery phase.

Some businesses in the East of Dak Lak province are still in the process of overcoming the consequences of floods. Specifically, it was noted that gas stations of Hoa Quang Nam cooperative, Hoa Tri cooperative, Phu Tran gas station ( Phu Yen ward) along with Truong Thanh Nhut LLC, Hoa Tan Private Enterprise and Thanh Hoang gas station... are still unable to operate again. The main reason is that the machinery is flooded, leading to damage.

Meanwhile, essential goods in some flooded areas are being restored to meet the shopping needs of the people. However, many people are still receiving support for essential goods, leading to low purchasing power. For businesses in communes with electricity, many stores have returned to normal operations after overcoming the consequences of the flood.

Co.op food supermarket is operating while recovering from the flood. Currently, a few markets are operating at the point of sale or have moved to the drainage point near the old area to trade fish and food products. Other items such as clothes, household appliances, etc. are currently cleaning up and recovering from the flood and have not yet come into operation.

Mr. Vuong Minh Son, Head of Dak Lak Market Management Department, said: "There was no shortage of goods after the flood. Besides, before, during and after the flood, the unit's professional teams deployed many monitoring measures, thanks to which there was no speculation, hoarding or unreasonable price increases. However, the price of green vegetables at the people's markets remained high due to heavy rain affecting the supply."

The Dak Lak Provincial Civil Defense Command has just issued a response scenario for storm No. 15 (Koto) along with heavy rain, floods, and landslides. In which, scenario 1: The storm is forecast to change direction when approaching the Dak Lak sea with a probability of 70 - 80%. The storm will move slowly to the North and gradually weaken. If this scenario occurs, the eastern area of the province may experience rainfall of 100 to 200 mm, concentrated in the period from December 1 to 3, 2025.

Scenario 2: In case the storm moves westward and makes landfall, affecting the provinces from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa with weak intensity, rainfall in the eastern part of Dak Lak province could reach 200 to 300 mm, also in the period from December 1 to 3, 2025.
