Every year, Vietnam has more than 100,000 premature babies and is a burden of illness and death in children. In Dak Nong , in the past 4 years, there were 979 premature babies under 2500gr/a total of 27,177 babies born, accounting for 3.6%. The Provincial General Hospital alone has cared for and treated 933 premature babies. Therefore, preventing the risk of premature birth is really necessary and should be prioritized in human health care strategies.

In recent times, Dak Nong has implemented many activities to improve the professional quality of medical staff at all levels in technical procedures for caring for newborns from the womb until the first 42 days after birth.
The province supports equipment for the care of premature and low-weight newborns at the Provincial General Hospital and some district-level medical centers. Delegates were shared the benefits of the KMC method to reduce infant mortality, especially mortality in premature/low birth weight babies.

With the theme “1 in 10 babies born prematurely in the world, ensuring all premature babies receive the best health care”, this year’s World Day for Prematurity aims to raise public awareness of reducing the risk of premature birth from preventable causes.
World Prematurity Day contributes to promoting intervention support to improve the health status of premature babies, while mobilizing the community and sectors to participate in caring for pregnant women, preventing premature birth, caring for/treating premature babies, and recognizing and honoring the contributions of medical staff in the health care of newborns, especially premature babies.
World Prematurity Day (17/11) was initiated by the non-profit European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) and partner European parent organizations in 2008. Since then, more than 100 countries including Vietnam have joined together with special activities, events and commitments to help address the issue of preterm birth and improve the situation of premature babies and their families.
