Ensure adequate water supply for people

In recent years, from the end of February to July every year, Bac Yen town, Bac Yen district, often lacks domestic water, affecting people's lives. To overcome this situation, before the dry season this year, Bac Yen District Water Supply Branch has focused on renovating and upgrading the water supply system, strengthening management to improve the quality of water sources, ensuring adequate domestic water supply for people.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Bao, Director of Bac Yen District Water Supply Branch, said: The unit is supplying domestic water to more than 1,000 households, nearly 100 agencies and enterprises in Bac Yen town. Water sources are mainly exploited from natural sources and drilled wells, so in the dry season, water sources are scarce and exhausted. Faced with this situation, since the beginning of this year, the Branch has mobilized human resources, invested in equipment, and deployed many remedial measures. In particular, implementing a plan to buy back water from the Center for Clean Water and Rural Environmental Sanitation to provide enough domestic water for Bac Yen town; installing an additional 2.2 km of pipeline to bring water from Ta Xua intersection to Phieng Ban commune's upstream dam. At the same time, propagandizing and mobilizing people who are using upstream water sources for production, sharing water sources to serve the daily life of people in Bac Yen town. Thanks to that, up to this point, the Branch has ensured enough domestic water supply for people.

Mr. Vu Manh Cuong, Phieng Ban sub-district, Bac Yen town, shared: Since the beginning of the dry season until now, we have had enough water for daily use. However, after experiencing water shortages in previous years, the family has raised awareness of saving water, using additional tanks to take advantage of rainwater.

In addition, the Branch focuses on improving the quality of water sources; regularly monitoring, checking and analyzing the flow of water supplied to the pumping station; maintaining and replacing water filtration equipment, ensuring clean water according to prescribed standards. Installing a camera surveillance system from the raw water source to the water treatment point in the factory; establishing an emergency treatment process for raw water sources if a water pollution incident occurs. Every week, the Branch conducts cleaning and flushing of raw water tanks, reaction tanks, filter tanks, and storage tanks; uses industrial zaven chemicals to treat raw water, ensuring safety in disinfection and treatment of organic compounds; adjusts the content of water treatment chemicals used in the production process. At the same time, the unit regularly coordinates with villages and sub-regions to propagate to people not to spray herbicides or throw away used pesticide containers upstream; and sets up boundary markers for water source protection corridors. At the same time, prepare to invest in the construction of a nearly 10 km long water pipeline connecting from the domestic water supply system for Ta Xua, Phieng Ban communes and neighboring areas to serve the domestic water supply for Bac Yen town.

With practical solutions, entering the dry season this year, the Bac Yen District Water Supply Branch has basically overcome the shortage of domestic water, contributing to improving the quality of people's lives. Along with the participation of authorities at all levels, functional sectors, and related units, each person needs to raise awareness of using water economically and effectively, thereby reducing the worry of water shortage in the dry season.
