Immediately after the Law on the Elderly and the Government's decisions were issued, the province quickly implemented many specific policies and plans to ensure the rights and comprehensive care for the elderly. These include: Resolution No. 21/2021/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council "Regulating social assistance policies for social protection beneficiaries and other disadvantaged groups in Quang Ninh province"; Plan No. 31/KH-UBND (dated January 26, 2022) of the Provincial People's Committee "Implementing the National Action Program on the Elderly in Quang Ninh province for the period 2021-2030"...

Accordingly, the province has focused on synchronous investment in the health system from the province to the grassroots level. Provincial hospitals are equipped with modern facilities, strengthening professional capacity; the health system at the grassroots level is upgraded, equipped synchronously, meeting the needs of on-site medical examination and treatment. A team of experienced and highly qualified doctors and nurses are always ready to take care of the health and perform examination, treatment, and nutritional consultation for the elderly.
In parallel, the province has implemented programs for regular health check-ups, chronic disease screening, early detection and timely intervention of common health problems in the elderly. Health management is digitized through an electronic health record system, helping to monitor indicators, remind appointments for check-ups and medication, and quickly connect with medical facilities when necessary.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ma (79 years old, Vang Danh ward) chose Quang Ninh Traditional Medicine Hospital for treatment and health care. She shared: Every year, I spend 2 months going to the hospital for treatment because I often have back pain, knee pain, and insomnia for many days. I also have high blood pressure and myocardial ischemia. After many acupuncture, massage, and oriental medicine treatments, many of my symptoms have clearly improved; after one treatment, my neck and shoulders have not hurt for a whole year.
The Department of Geriatrics (Quang Ninh Traditional Medicine Hospital) has long been a trusted address for the elderly in health care. The department currently has 60 planned beds, 80 actual beds, and a peak of 110-120 patients. According to Dr. CKI Do Manh Dung (Deputy Head of the Department of Geriatrics), the elderly often have many chronic diseases. These diseases are difficult to completely treat with Western medicine, easily relapse and affect mobility and mental ability. Oriental medicine has many methods, such as acupuncture, massage, acupressure, herbal medicine... suitable for the elderly's physical condition, helping to provide comprehensive treatment, prolong effectiveness and improve resistance for the elderly.

In the province, besides the Provincial Geriatric - Rehabilitation Hospital which is the leading specialized hospital in geriatrics and rehabilitation, there are 4 hospitals: Provincial General Hospital, Bai Chay Hospital, Traditional Medicine Hospital, Cam Pha Regional General Hospital which have established geriatric departments or integrated them with other departments. Some public health facilities are interested in arranging separate examination tables and priority beds for some groups of people, including the elderly.
The province has implemented many specialized programs, such as preventing blindness, free cataract surgery for the elderly; coordinating with international organizations... Humanitarian and charitable medical examination and treatment activities are organized regularly.
Community activities are also focused on. Typically, the Provincial Elderly Association coordinates with the Health Department, the Fatherland Front and other organizations to organize training courses and guide the elderly in practicing health care, yoga and sports; at the same time, promote propaganda about nutrition and maintain an optimistic spirit for the elderly.
In the coming time, the province aims to strive for 100% of general and specialized hospitals to have geriatric departments; develop long-term care models and community care, ensuring that all elderly people have access to health services in a fair, effective and quality manner...
