The model of bringing folk songs to the fair was successfully piloted by the Provincial Folk Song Preservation Association at the fair on September 14 (lunar calendar) in 2018 in Hang Van village, Hoi Hoan commune. Since then, these models have spread strongly, becoming a familiar mass cultural movement throughout the province.
Mr. Phung Van Muon, Chairman of the Provincial Folk Song Preservation Association, said: From the beginning of 2025 until now, we have coordinated to organize 10 programs to bring folk songs to the market. Bringing folk songs to the market space helps folk songs live in a close, natural environment, helping people feel more clearly the cultural identity of their homeland, contributing to preserving and promoting national cultural values in modern life. This is also a way to create conditions for artisans and members of folk song clubs to exchange and demonstrate their talents, and more importantly, to let folk songs be present in daily life, forming the habit of receiving and accompanying in preserving traditional cultural capital.
In modern life, Lang Son market is not only a place for exchanging goods but also becomes a unique cultural space, where traditional folk songs are sung in a simple and sincere way, creating new vitality for community life. Typically, at Van Linh commune market, which takes place periodically on the 2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd and 27th of the lunar month. The market on October 2nd of this year's lunar calendar attracted a large number of people to come early to enjoy the special folk songs. The program has the participation of artisans and mass actors from many villages in the commune and neighboring communes. Typical folk songs such as Then singing, Sli singing, Luon singing, Phong Slu singing have brought close and familiar melodies. People come to the market not only to shop but also to enjoy folk music , creating a vibrant cultural exchange space.
Mr. Phuong Hai Ngu, a member of Bang Huu Folk Song Club, Bang Mac Commune, shared: “We are very happy and excited to see that the authorities at all levels are interested in preserving the nation's folk songs. By bringing our songs and voices to all the people at Van Linh Commune market today, we hope that the spirit of loving folk songs will be passed on to future young generations.”
The soulful, smooth folk melodies resounding in the bustling, bustling atmosphere of the market create a unique cultural highlight for community activities.
Mr. Loc Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of Nhan Ly Commune People's Committee, said: Through the folk song exchanges at this market, pride has been aroused and a deep love for folk songs of the local ethnic groups has been fostered. Moreover, the folk songs resounding in the trading space help the market become more vibrant and lively, creating a unique cultural highlight for community activities and practically contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people in the commune. In the coming time, Nhan Ly Commune authorities will strengthen coordination with the Provincial Folk Song Preservation Association to promote folk song exchanges at the markets.
The success of bringing folk songs to fairs lies not only in the number of programs or the scale of the festival but also in the sustainable meaning it brings. It is in these familiar trading spaces that traditional culture has found its most natural "revival".
Through the synchronous coordination between local authorities, the Folk Song Preservation Association and the enthusiastic response from the clubs, the model of bringing folk songs to the market has proven to be a practical solution in the work of preserving cultural heritage. Letting folk songs resound in the heart of the market not only improves the spiritual life of the people but also nurtures the love of culture for the younger generation, creating a continuous cultural flow from the past to the present.
