Born into a family with a tradition of performing arts, Thai Chau showed his talent from a young age, but he "revealed" that he was very afraid of the stage and lacked composure when having to speak in front of a crowd. "I first stepped on stage in the late 1960s. I asked my parents' permission to follow my teacher on a tour of the cai luong troupe. Before the main play, I was arranged to sing the opening modern music. When I was standing in the wings, I was very excited, but when I was introduced, my legs trembled and I couldn't walk. At that time, my teacher kicked me and I was able to step onto the stage. When I stood on stage, I kept stuttering and couldn't speak, but when I sang, everything went smoothly," Thai Chau confided.
He added: "After I went overseas, I had to do a stable job besides singing, and few people knew that many of my famous songs were recorded with record companies at 1-2 am to make it on time for my part-time job. Continuously recording hundreds of songs at such odd hours (singing 10-15 songs a day) made me have to have my vocal cords maintained so as not to affect my health."
In recent years, famous singer Thai Chau has returned to Vietnam to work, appearing in many television programs and music competitions as a judge. Thai Chau is considered one of the few artists who can sing a variety of genres, keep up with trends and integrate with the flow of today's Vietnamese music scene.
