Dang Van Lam races with injury before match against Laos

Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was injured and absent from the second training session of the Vietnamese team, in preparation for the match against Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

On the afternoon of November 12, the Vietnamese team had its second training session at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ), preparing for the rematch with Laos in the second leg of Group F, third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

This training session had the participation of 21 players. The two absentees were goalkeeper Dang Van Lam and midfielder Nguyen Hai Long.

Dang Van Lam suffered a thigh injury in the first training session on November 11, after colliding with a teammate. Although it is not a serious injury, Lam still needs time to rest.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Hai Long showed signs of overload after round 11 of V-League 2025 - 2026. He had a sore shoulder, could not practice immediately and had to stay at the hotel to practice lightly with Dang Van Lam.

Van Lam is trying to regain his position as the number 1 goalkeeper in the Vietnam national team after a period of stable performance for Ninh Binh Club in the V-League this season. He has only started 1 match (against Nepal in October), after many months of absence under coach Kim Sang Sik.

If he cannot return in time, this will be a big regret for the Vietnamese-Russian goalkeeper.

Sharing at the second training session, defender Pham Xuan Manh said the Vietnamese team will begin assembling the squad and practicing tactics from today.

"After the first day without half the team, today the Vietnamese team started practicing tactics to prepare for the match with Laos. Most of the players are in good shape. The Vietnamese team is determined to win on away land and bring home 3 points," said Pham Xuan Manh.

The Vietnamese team will continue to train in Phu Tho until November 14, before moving to Laos on November 15. The match between the two teams will take place at 7 p.m. on November 19.

In Group F of the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team is in second place with 9 points after 4 matches. Coach Kim Sang Sik's team has only 2 matches left to end the campaign.

Nguyen Xuan Son is expected to help the team resolve the crucial match with Malaysia in the final round taking place in March 2026.
