Reporting at the conference, Nguyen Thanh Quang, Director of the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, stated that the Center had completed 15 out of 16 tasks assigned by the Steering Committee this year. Regarding the project to restore the Kinh Thien Palace at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, this is a task deemed extremely important and urgent by the Steering Committee. Currently, the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center is coordinating with the Institute of Archaeology (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences ) to conduct exploratory excavations and has achieved many important results, contributing to clarifying the scale and foundation of the Kinh Thien Palace, and expanding the scientific basis for the restoration of the main Kinh Thien Palace.

During the on-site inspection of the newly excavated pits, the Director of the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, Nguyen Thanh Quang, also reported to the Steering Committee on the results of the 2025 exploratory excavation of the Kinh Thien Main Palace area, with many new discoveries of special scientific value.

Accordingly, the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, in coordination with the Institute of Archaeology, carried out archaeological excavations at the Kinh Thien Palace foundation area. The total excavated area was 580m², located beneath the Artillery building (CT04). The structure was dismantled according to proper procedures, under control, in compliance with the Venice Charter of 1964 and the Vietnamese Law on Cultural Heritage of 2024, and a full report was submitted to UNESCO.

Preliminary results indicate that the stratigraphic layers in the excavated area are up to 6 meters thick, comprising 6 continuous cultural layers, spanning from the Pre-Thang Long period (7th - 10th centuries) to the modern era (19th - 20th centuries). Of these, the Le Dynasty cultural layer is the thickest, nearly 3 meters, encompassing two successive periods: the Early Le Dynasty and the Later Le Dynasty.

Corresponding to the stratigraphic layers is a rich system of architectural remains from many historical periods. Archaeologists have discovered a row of red bricks from the Tran Dynasty (13th - 14th centuries), a row of gray bricks from the early Le Dynasty (15th - 16th centuries), the stone paving of the Royal Road, and 14 architectural foundations of the Kinh Thien Main Palace from the Le Trung Hung period (17th - 18th centuries).

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang, this is a highly credible scientific basis that will contribute decisively to the strategy of restoring the Kinh Thien Main Palace and the space of the Kinh Thien Main Palace during the Le Dynasty. At the same time, the excavation also seriously meets the recommendations of UNESCO/ICOMOS and the requirements of the Law on Cultural Heritage, providing clearer evidence of the fundamental attributes of the outstanding universal value of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi World Heritage Site.

At the conference, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong acknowledged the efforts of the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology with the latest excavation results. The Steering Committee also met to discuss and identify tasks for the coming period, especially addressing bottlenecks and difficulties to ensure that the conservation and promotion of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site achieves the set goals and plans.
