Comedian Kieu Oanh, 51, is strangely private, living happily with her Meritorious Artist husband.

Once a leading female comedian in showbiz, Kieu Oanh has chosen to live and work in a private manner for many years, limiting her use of social media. She is currently living happily with her husband - Meritorious Artist Hoang Nhat and her two daughters.

51 years old, living a private life, not interested in worldly affairs but happy

- Many people are surprised that a veteran and famous face like you has just had your first movie role at the age of 51?

I often jokingly call myself a “veteran” in the film industry. I believe in the fate of the profession and am always meticulous with each role.

Oscar Duong - director of the movie Money Trap, although young, convinced me after a few conversations. In addition, the script and talented cast were what made me feel secure when accepting the role.

In the film, I play the main character’s mother. The image of a mother on screen is familiar, so I tried to dig deeper and find something new to express. The role has “4 things that are not” that I believe will be interesting to viewers when it is released.

- Middle-aged actors have been shining and sought after in both cinema and theater in recent years, while Kieu Oanh - a once-famous name - has fallen behind. Why did you choose this?

I am a strange person! I don't follow the path that other people usually take and vice versa. I am not retreating or withdrawing, I am just choosing to serve the audience in my own way.

Currently, I run 2-3 shows a week, mainly in the province, district, or commune. I go wherever is needed, regardless of distance or stage size.

The name Kieu Oanh was created by the audience for decades, now I want to return the love to them. If my presence makes everyone happy, or the organizers sell a few more tickets, I am willing.

I think simply, who knows, maybe I will travel around the world to experience and come back at the right time, the Money Trap project is an example.

- Kieu Oanh now seems much different than before. She is quieter, more reserved and almost unfamiliar with the media and social networks?

Since I was young, I have been carefree and indifferent to worldly affairs. I have not let joys, anger, love, or hate affect me, but have focused my mind on sublimating and creating art.

As I get older, I want to slow down and go deeper inside. I enjoy life, not trying to force it, letting things flow naturally.

After each show, I go home immediately, not caring or paying attention to anyone's business. My colleagues and I keep in touch and meet up for social occasions, but we are not close.

Even my social media from Facebook to TikTok are all gifts from fans. Other than that, I am almost blind and don’t care much. Besides art, my mind is focused on housework, cooking and children… sometimes I forget to take care of myself.

- People often say, if Kieu Oanh had a good image, her name would be at the top of the industry today?

At this age, I have experienced and seen too much. Sometimes life does not depend on you. You calculate and do too much but it is not certain that you will succeed. On the contrary, living safely and simply is better. I share this sincerely, not avoiding or pleasing anyone.

Recently, TikTok has been spreading clips of me in old plays, some of which have reached millions of views and are loved. I didn’t spend any money or ask anyone for help. It all comes from the love and admiration of the audience. I didn’t have to do anything to get it, I’m so happy.

- You are not very famous and not very active, how do you manage financially ?

I work carefree, not focusing on money. For every film or show project, if the pay is reasonable, I will accept. After all, I am a veteran name, have my own value, so the salary is okay.

Besides art, I have also had a steady business for several years now. I am not the type of person who spends lavishly or is addicted to buying luxury goods… A month’s income, little or much, is enough to cover my expenses.

- You work in a discreet profession, keeping your private life private, but staying silent even when something bad happens to you seems to be a disadvantage...

I have never been in the habit of explaining or arguing. We do art, perform for millions of audiences, it is normal for a few people to have opposing opinions.

Just live right, don't do things that will shame your conscience because around you there are God, Buddha, and ancestors watching over you.

I can be lively on stage but in real life it is the opposite. Anywhere there is noise and chaos, I run away. It is difficult to argue or quarrel with Kieu Oanh, I will give in to all.

- As for the rumor that Kieu Oanh was oppressed by her colleagues and "took over her seat" so she chose to withdraw, you didn't pay attention?

I don't have a seat to fight for or steal. (laughs) Actually, everyone has a position in the profession, no one can steal or destroy anyone else's.

There are jobs I have been doing for too long so I have to leave. I have been staying up late, waking up early, and doing shows all the time, which makes me exhausted. When I was young I could still do it, but at this age I have to worry about my health.

Over the years, I have received many invitations. If I only did it with the thought of making money, it would be fine, but I refused because I felt it was not suitable.

I have to measure my strength, not just jump in when I see everyone else doing it. Sometimes being too greedy turns out bad, losing yourself is not good.

- A few years ago, you transferred your assets to your children. How are things going now?

Being a mother, I worry a lot. Art work is unstable, so I'm afraid that if something happens to my children, I'll save money in advance.

I have a separate budget for myself. As for my children's money, it's still the same. No matter how difficult it is, I absolutely won't touch it.

I have two children, the eldest daughter is 17 and about to enter university, and the youngest is 7. I try to teach them gently and slowly, instead of using corporal punishment or psychological pressure. As a mother, I am happy to accompany them, watching them grow up day by day.

- Your husband - Meritorious Artist Hoang Nhat is always silently by your side. What does he say about your choice?

My husband is calm, very considerate of his wife and children, and is a great support for me. Mr. Nhat and I share the same Cai Luong background, which helps us bond and understand each other better.

In marriage, he is gentle and considerate, and I am always conscious of compromise, so life flows smoothly. We do not intend to publicize or promote our marriage because we want our private life to be quiet.
