The stock market trading session on February 13th is a time of great interest to investors as it is the last session of the Year of the Snake 2025.

At the start of the session, investor sentiment was rather gloomy and cautious. Throughout the morning trading period, the market was quite sluggish, mostly in the red. Liquidity dropped to an unprecedentedly low level, just over 8,000 billion VND.

However, during the afternoon trading session, right from the moment the market reopened, green quickly covered the electronic trading board, the VN-Index gained considerable upward momentum, creating confidence among investors. The flow of money became bolder.

At the close of trading on February 13th, the VN-Index rose 10 points, or 55%, to 1,824.09 points; the VN30-Index increased 2.17 points, or 0.11%, to 2,018.64 points.

On the Ho Chi Minh City stock exchange, 193 stocks increased in price, 68 remained unchanged, and 118 decreased. Within the VN30 group, blue-chip stocks also dominated with 19 closing in the green. Only 4 remained unchanged and 7 decreased.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, green dominated the market. At the close of trading, the HNX-Index stood at 257.06 points after rising 0.58 points, or 0.24%; the HNX30-Index increased by 2.65 points, or 0.47%, to 563.37 points.

The stock market on February 13th was quite volatile. The entire Ho Chi Minh City exchange recorded only over 603 million shares, equivalent to 19,863 billion VND, successfully traded. This figure represents a significant improvement compared to the over 16,000 billion VND traded yesterday, but is still considerably more modest than recent levels.

Previously, statistics showed that the average trading volume in 2025 would reach 1.1 billion securities per day, corresponding to an average trading value of 26,582 billion VND per day.

These data indicate that liquidity is drying up as the 2026 Lunar New Year approaches. This is a fairly typical market state near a long holiday: short-term capital is temporarily staying on the sidelines, and investors prioritize preserving their positions rather than incurring new risks.

The most notable point is that overall market liquidity is less than 20,000 billion VND, significantly lower than the annual average of around 26,500 billion VND. This indicates that buying pressure is not widespread, but concentrated on a few large-cap groups or blue-chip stocks.

The significantly stronger increase in the VN-Index compared to the VN30-Index suggests that the impetus doesn't entirely come from the largest blue-chip stocks, but may also come from some large-cap stocks outside the VN30 or mid-cap stocks with substantial weightings. However, the increase in the VN30 remains quite modest, indicating that institutional investors haven't really significantly increased their positions, mainly maintaining portfolio balances before the holiday.

The sharp decline in liquidity also reflects the "closing down" sentiment of investors after a year of strong market volatility and a high index level. Many accounts tend to limit opening new positions, prioritizing holding cash or maintaining a safe proportion of stocks to avoid information risks during the holiday period. Sellers are also not overly aggressive, causing both supply and demand to contract, resulting in a controlled upward trend.
