Peach blossoms and kumquats see significant price reductions on the 28th day of the Lunar New Year.

On the 28th day of the Lunar New Year, peach blossoms and kumquats at many flower markets in Hanoi saw a simultaneous price reduction of 20-30%, with many vendors aggressively clearing their stock to recover their capital.

With only one day left until the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the atmosphere at major flower markets such as Lac Long Quan Street and Nguyen Hoang Ton Street ( Hanoi ) remains bustling with buyers and sellers. However, as Tet approaches, many small traders are starting to drastically reduce prices to clear their stock, especially for ornamental peach and kumquat trees.

In the Lac Long Quan street area, Ms. Huyen, a small business owner with over 10 years of experience selling kumquat trees for Tet (Lunar New Year), said that this year people tend to buy later, but overall demand is better than last year. The price of kumquat trees at the beginning of the season is also slightly higher. Last year, the smallest potted kumquat trees cost around 150,000–180,000 VND/tree, but this year most vendors are selling them for 200,000 VND/tree. Large kumquat trees that sold for around 800,000 VND/tree last year are commonly priced at 1 million VND/tree this year.

However, according to Ms. Huyen, the 28th day of the Lunar New Year is almost the "closing time," forcing many small traders to drastically reduce prices. Some kumquat trees that sold for 1 million VND/tree 2-3 days ago are now only around 500,000-700,000 VND/tree to sell quickly.

In contrast to kumquat trees, the market for peach blossoms this Tet holiday has seen a 20-30% price decrease compared to last year. Ms. Ngoc, a peach blossom vendor, said that the peach blossoms are not fetching good prices this year because they bloomed too early.

"This year is a leap year, with an extra month, so the peach blossoms have all bloomed before Tet (Lunar New Year). We have to lower the prices to sell them quickly. Compared to last year, the price of peach blossoms for Tet this year is about 30% lower," she said.

In the Xuan La area (Tay Ho, Hanoi), Mr. Tuan shared a similar situation. According to him, because Tet (Lunar New Year) came late this year, the peach blossoms bloomed early, causing prices to drop. The warmer weather in the last days of the year has made the flowers bloom even faster. "Today is already the 28th of Tet, we only have today and tomorrow morning left to sell, so we're lowering prices to try and sell them all. Branches that sold for 1.5 million VND 3-4 days ago are now reduced to 1 million VND per branch to sell quickly," Mr. Tuan said.

Regarding wild peach blossoms, Ms. Lan – a small trader specializing in selling wild peach blossoms for over 10 years – said that prices this year are about 20-30% lower than last year.

“We import peaches from Sin Ho ( Lai Chau ), a very long distance. Wild peaches don't sell as well as Nhat Tan peaches or other varieties, but there's still a certain number of customers. I only have today and tomorrow left to sell, but I still have a lot of stock,” Ms. Lan said, admitting that peach sales this year are slower than last year.

Observations at major flower and ornamental plant markets in Hanoi on the 28th day of the Lunar New Year show that the number of shoppers remains quite high. Many vendors are simultaneously reducing prices by 20-30%, or even more for early-blooming or leftover products, in order to recover capital before the end of the Tet season.
