The forum focused on discussing the achieved results, and at the same time reflected the current development status of each training and research sector; thereby analyzing the challenges that the school, units and sectors are facing in the current context.

Based on these assessments, the forum aims to propose development orientations for the field of social sciences and humanities in the future, contributing to the cause of education and community service, in accordance with the spirit of Resolution 57-NQ/TW and Resolution 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo .

In his opening speech at the forum, Professor, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) emphasized: In recent times, science and education have been facing many new development contexts. In that flow, social sciences and humanities, as a special field, playing an important role in intellectual life, are also facing new opportunities and challenges.

Based on summarizing and reviewing the school's development path, placing that development in the context of the general movement of science and education in the country, as well as the major trends of science and education in the world, especially university education, the school has organized many activities to objectively and frankly evaluate and survey the achievements that have been achieved; at the same time, more importantly, clearly identify the current situation and development trends to find new directions.

Professor, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) spoke.

These orientations are not only for the development of the school as a training and research institution, but also expected to contribute more suggestions for the development of the country's social sciences and humanities. The school is always deeply aware of its role in training human resources, scientific research, policy consulting, community service, and especially in creating and disseminating knowledge to make practical contributions to the overall development of the country.

According to Professor, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, recently, the school has organized many in-depth academic forums, focusing on core topics of the field of social sciences and humanities: from the goals and missions of social sciences and humanities; the relationships between tradition and modernity, between social sciences and humanities and the strong development of science and technology in the world; to issues related to the application of technology, interdisciplinary methods in research and training .

Sharing at the forum, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hong Son, Vice Rector of the school, emphasized that over the past three decades, the field of social sciences and humanities has undergone many important changes associated with the development of higher education and the country. If the period 1956-1995 was shaped by the foundation of academic training, creating the "Hanoi General School" famous both domestically and internationally, then from the late 1980s-1990s, along with the country's renovation and the formation of Hanoi National University, the training philosophy has shifted dramatically.

Another highlight is the development in scale and industry structure. In 1994, the school had 8 faculties and 10 training majors; by 2009, it had increased to 15 faculties and 20 majors. By 2025, the number of training units remained at 15, but the university training sector had expanded to 30 majors.

This trend represents a shift from the “one faculty-one industry” model to the “multi-industry” model, associated with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, in line with the development of modern science. The expansion is also evident at all levels of training. From only training bachelors, the school has strongly developed masters and doctoral programs. To date, the school has 30 bachelor training majors, 32 masters majors and 22 doctoral majors.

According to Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, former Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), the school's development strategy must revolve around the research university model; from research to training, everything must be innovated to adapt to the knowledge economy, digital transformation and the requirements of university autonomy. Social Sciences and Humanities play an increasingly important role in policy making, human development and solving the country's problems; therefore, training and research must aim for applicability and international integration.

Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh said that from research to training, there must be fundamental changes. Social sciences and humanities must not only stop at theory but must aim at application and direct participation in solving the country's problems. The industry development model in the new period must ensure interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary nature, opening training majors linked to practical needs, suitable for new trends, and at the same time demonstrating the pioneering mission of Hanoi National University in opening new majors and new fields.

The scientific forum attracted the participation of many scientists, experts, and managers from ministries, sectors, universities, and research institutes.

Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh also emphasized the method shift: flexibly combining direct and online; shifting students from “being trained” to “self-trained”. This requires the teaching staff to approach international standards, becoming a global academic force, capable of open international exchange and cooperation.

One of the highlights of the forum was the discussion on the development orientation of training and research in Social Sciences and Humanities in the coming period. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Luu Van Quyet, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, the strong connection between the two largest humanities institutions in the country contributes to creating an open and unique academic exchange space, while quickly adapting to changes in social sciences domestically and internationally.

The forum's content focuses on clarifying issues regarding the current status, achievements and prospects in training and research of each industry, including: The role and importance of the industry in modern society; characteristics, strengths, achievements, training and research results of the industry at the school; application of new technology, digital transformation and application of artificial intelligence in teaching and research activities; international experience and lessons for training and research of the industry in Vietnam along with the industry's challenges and development solutions.
