Training technical human resources for rural areas

In the context that our province is promoting the transformation of the labor structure, the demand for technical human resources for rural areas is increasing. Bac Quang Boarding Ethnic Minority Secondary School (DTNT) - Continuing Education (GDTX) is a bright spot in training technical majors associated with practical needs, creating job opportunities, and changing workers' awareness of vocational training.

With the orientation of "taking students as the center, taking quality as the goal", Bac Quang Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities and Continuing Education currently trains more than 10 professions, focusing on fields with high demand in rural areas such as: agricultural engineering, cultivation and plant protection, animal husbandry - veterinary medicine, civil electricity, agricultural machinery repair, applied informatics, garment...

The school has proactively surveyed the needs of businesses, cooperatives and production households in communes in the province to adjust the training program in the direction of "hands-on training", increasing the practice time to 60-70%. Many practical models right at the school such as safe vegetable growing area, organic livestock farming model, agricultural machinery repair workshop, electrical and electronic practice room... help students grasp vocational skills right from when they are still in school.

In the past 3 years, the rate of students having jobs after graduation has reached over 80%, many of whom work in medicinal plant growing enterprises, VietGAP orange growing cooperatives, concentrated livestock farms or open their own agricultural machinery repair service establishments in the locality. Some occupations such as civil electricity and veterinary medicine are considered to never lack jobs in rural areas.

According to teacher Pham Van Dinh, Vice Principal of the school, vocational training for ethnic minority youth is not only about teaching skills but more importantly, it is about creating confidence for them to boldly start their own business. Many of them were previously very self-conscious and had low academic performance, but when they were guided in practice and assigned specific tasks, they became passionate, confident, and had a clearer direction for the future.

One of the highlights of Bac Quang Ethnic Minority Vocational College is to promote the connection between the school – enterprises – locality. Every year, the school signs training cooperation agreements with high-tech agricultural enterprises, large farms and many production facilities in and outside the province. Thanks to that, students can do internships and be directly recruited by enterprises right after graduation.

In agricultural vocational training, the school cooperates with Agricultural Extension Centers, Agricultural Genetics Institute, and Plant Seed Joint Stock Company to update new techniques: hybridization, fruit tree care using drip irrigation, organic farming, pest control using biological products, through which graduates can immediately apply them to production at home or in the locality.

In the field of electricity and mechanics, the school has expanded its cooperation with construction and installation enterprises and mechanical units to help students access new technology. Many students after their internship have been retained to work with a stable income of 8-10 million VND/person/month.

In addition, the school focuses on training soft skills: communication skills, labor safety, and industrial style. The school's students are assessed to have better discipline and adaptability than the average rural and mountainous labor force.

Being a boarding school for ethnic minorities, most of the students are Tay, Dao, Nung, Mong ethnic people from disadvantaged communes in the province. The school fully implements the State's support policy for ethnic minority students; at the same time, mobilizes more scholarships from organizations and businesses to encourage the spirit of self-study.

Many students after graduating have returned to their hometowns to start their own businesses and become propagandists and technicians, contributing to changing the way farmers think and work. A typical example is Ly Van Kien (Quang Minh village, Bac Quang commune), after studying animal husbandry and veterinary, opened a vaccination service and took care of livestock for the whole village, earning 6-8 million VND per month. Nguyen Hoang Long, Tan Lap village, Tan Quang commune, after finishing his studies in civil electricity, opened a small shop repairing household electrical appliances and at the same time supported people in installing rooftop solar power systems.

Not only training skills, the school also organizes many experiential activities, creative clubs, and vocational competitions for students to practice their confidence. Many small innovative models of students such as mini agricultural dryers, automatic wire winding machines, and organic fertilizer composting furnace models have been applied in practice.

The young technical human resources trained by the school have been directly contributing to the new rural construction program; changing the crop structure, applying new farming techniques, developing hill garden economy , forming electrical - mechanical and veterinary service teams in villages, thereby contributing to changing the face of agricultural production in many communes of the province.
