On the afternoon of November 12, the Government Electronic Information Portal organized a discussion on "Vietnam's socio -economic situation 2021-2025: Resilience and breakthrough", to summarize the most important, comprehensive and impressive features of the socio-economic situation over the past 5 years compared to previous years and compared to the world and the region, to see the whole picture more clearly.

Vietnam's economy is resilient to external shocks.

From the perspective of UNDP, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi assessed that Vietnam has made significant progress despite the global challenges it faces. In particular, the high and continuously improving Human Development Index (HDI) is an outstanding achievement of Vietnam, according to her.

“What is most impressive is the strong leadership and strategic vision that have helped Vietnam effectively implement economic development policies. Vietnam has overcome many challenges, from the pandemic to risks from crises and adapting to the climate crisis, to emerge with resilience and strength,” said Ms. Ramla Khalidi.

Meanwhile, National Assembly delegate Phan Duc Hieu cited many examples showing that Vietnam's economy this term has been resilient enough to withstand external shocks.

First of all, he assessed that compared to the previous period, the internal capacity of the economy has improved very strongly in the period 2021-2025. If the GDP growth rate in 2025 reaches 8%, the average growth in this period will be 6.3%, higher than the previous period, although this is a period with many difficulties and challenges.

Along with that, the scale of the economy has also increased, from the beginning of the year until now, increasing from 364 billion USD to about 510 billion USD; total import-export turnover and trade surplus have improved significantly; some basic macroeconomic indicators are under control.

"Brave, determined and selfless"

From the perspective of a policy expert, Professor Vu Minh Khuong (Lecturer at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy - Singapore) also shared the same opinion that in a difficult and complicated context, Vietnam has shown extraordinary strength and affirmed its ability to make a strong breakthrough.

He also acknowledged that the direction and administration of the Government, the Prime Minister and the Party Central Committee have shown a very high level of consistency.

“When working with many industries, localities and businesses, I realize that the most important achievement is to create a strong atmosphere, affirming that there is no challenge that the Vietnamese people cannot overcome,” said Mr. Khuong.

From the analysis of reality, he summarized the highlights of the Government's management during this period with 3 "Q" words: Courageous; determined and selfless.

“These three precious qualities make me truly grateful and proud to share with international friends that we have a strong leadership team, worthy of the nation's development in this period,” Mr. Khuong emphasized.

According to the expert, when working at universities such as Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi National University, University of Technology... as well as private universities and Da Nang University, he noticed a very different mindset and the appearance of good staff. According to him, this is a good thing.

Regarding technology development, Dr. Vu Minh Khuong assessed that Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest broadband Internet access rate in the world.

“People can sell online, even in areas like Dak Lak or Lai Chau, they can also sell to neighboring countries, not just domestically. They can place thousands of orders via livestream. They shared with me that it is the dynamism of Vietnamese people in the context of the Government's determination to innovate and stabilize, and the Central Government has very big decisions and strong changes,” said Mr. Khuong.

Assessing that Vietnam has many solid foundations to go further, the expert believes that in the 2025-2026 period, the country will continue to make miraculous progress.

Not only economic growth, ensuring social targets is also a bright spot of Vietnam.

Former Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Social Affairs Bui Sy Loi said that during the 2021-2025 term, the Government has directed very strongly and effectively the improvement of social welfare for all people, ensuring that all people have access to and enjoy quality basic social services.

Accordingly, social security and sustainable poverty reduction have achieved many results, which are the driving force for development.

According to Mr. Loi, health and education are also closely linked, demonstrating the thinking of comprehensive human development, affirming a very correct direction.

Education and training are also focused on improving the quality of human resources, thereby gradually narrowing the gap between regions.

Ms. Ramla Khalidi said that all these social indicators clearly reflect Vietnam's progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Vietnam has accumulated many significant successes, and now needs to 'shift gears' and accelerate to continue to maintain and enhance that development trajectory,” said Ms. Ramla Khalidi.
