Establishing a network of private museums
Apollo Medical Museum (Dien Ban Dong Ward) is the first medical museum in Vietnam, having been in operation for four months. The museum attracts a large number of visitors with 20% of its exhibits displayed in person and 80% utilizing modern technology for immersive and engaging experiences through virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and 3D simulations. Visitors can learn about traditional healing methods, important medical inventions, and the continuous advancements in global medicine.
The project, envisioned by the Institute - Phan Chau Trinh University of Medicine, is intended as a space for preserving medical heritage, where artifacts, documents, and stories of the medical field are systematized and presented to students and the community. Ms. Le Thi Bich Le, the museum manager, stated that in the initial phase, the museum will not charge an entrance fee in order to facilitate wider community access to this academic space and medical heritage.
The Apollo Medical Museum is the most recently established private museum in Da Nang. Prior to this, the city had many other well-known tourist destinations such as: the Dong Dinh Museum (Son Tra ward), the Non Nuoc - Ngu Hanh Son Stone Sculpture Museum (Ngu Hanh Son ward), the Buddhist Culture Museum at Quan The Am Pagoda (Ngu Hanh Son ward), and the CSO Gallery Hoi An Museum of Ancient Coins, Stamps, and the Tale of Kieu (Hoi An Dong ward)...
As the first private museum in Da Nang , the Dong Dinh Museum originated from the love of nature and the dedication to preserving the architectural and cultural values of the nation by poet, director, and Meritorious Artist Doan Huy Giao. Located on the Son Tra peninsula with the theme "Garden of Memories," it displays many valuable artifacts, antiques, works of art, a fishing village memory house, and an ethnography exhibition house. Particularly noteworthy are the thematic collections of ancient pottery: Sa Huynh culture, Cham pottery, Go Sanh pottery (Binh Dinh)... and an exhibition space about the old Nam Tho fishing village with many boat remains, fishing tools, and images of fishermen.

After more than 3 years of operation, the Non Nuoc - Ngu Hanh Son Stone Sculpture Memory Museum has welcomed over 10,000 visitors annually, including many international groups connected through online platforms. Here, more than 300 artifacts recreate a comprehensive picture of the culture and life of the nearly 400-year-old Non Nuoc stone carving village; contributing to the preservation, protection, and development of tangible and intangible cultural heritage at the Ngu Hanh Son scenic area.
Meanwhile, the CSO Gallery Hoi An Museum of Ancient Coins, Stamps, and the Tale of Kieu welcomed over 15,000 visitors, including students, domestic and international tourists. It houses more than 22,000 valuable artifacts, most notably a unique collection of the Tale of Kieu, along with 58 collections of currency containing over 10,000 artifacts dating back 2,500 years…
Tourism connection
Mr. Le Van Hoa, manager of the Non Nuoc - Ngu Hanh Son Stone Sculpture Memory Museum, said that in their operations, private museums always have to strive to invest and explore. In particular, they must convey unique cultural stories to attract tourists. With a long-term orientation towards tourism linkages, Mr. Hoa hopes the city will support the museum with a convenient space near the Ngu Hanh Son scenic area to facilitate connection with tourists. There, tours will be integrated with check-in activities, stone carving experiences, and enhanced interaction between tourists and the destination…

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Huu Tai, owner of the CSO Gallery Hoi An Museum of Ancient Coins, Stamps, and the Tale of Kieu, suggested that Da Nang tours could integrate museums in the Hoi An metropolitan area into combo tickets to connect destinations and create incentives for museums to develop.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that, to support and facilitate non-governmental and socially-oriented museums, it has implemented policies to provide legal and professional support, including museum management, exhibition, preservation, documentation, and inventory of artifacts. Information, images, and stories about private museums are promoted through official channels of the Da Nang tourism industry and through promotional campaigns and destination networking to increase their visibility to tourists. The city also encourages individuals and private collectors to establish and operate non-governmental art museums and antique museums.
