EVNGENCO1 chaired the Power Source Subcommittee

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) assigned Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO1) to chair the Power Source Division, directly managed by General Director Le Hai Dang. This role demonstrates EVNGENCO1's professional prestige, experience and academic mettle in the field of power generation - a field that plays a fundamental role in national energy security.

As the host, General Director Le Hai Dang ran the entire working session, led the discussions and summarized each content group, demonstrating the connecting role between domestic and international experts.

Not only taking on the management role, EVNGENCO1 also contributed one of the most highly applicable researches of the sub-committee: "Optimal solution for dispatching and receiving coal at Duyen Hai Power Center", presented by Dr. Nguyen Tien Sang (Department of Science , Technology and Innovation, EVNGENCO1).

Research and build a comprehensive digital model of the coal reception - storage - supply process, apply optimization algorithms, simulate operating scenarios to select the most effective solution.

The solution helps reduce costs, increase fuel supply reliability and enhance the initiative of factories in the cluster. Experts believe that the model can be replicated at many factories under EVNGENCO1 and the whole EVN, strongly supporting the digital transformation process in the field of fuel operations.

The Power Sources 2025 panel provided a comprehensive picture of technology trends in the energy transition: offshore wind power integrated with the electricity market; thermal power operation optimization technology; ammonia/hydrogen co-firing; LNG infrastructure upgrade; advanced nuclear power; AI in equipment monitoring; and smart hydropower operation.

The fact that EVNGENCO1 was assigned to chair the most important academic sub-committee of the 2025 Electricity Science and Technology Conference is a clear demonstration of the Corporation's professional capacity, pioneering spirit and responsibility in technology transformation and sustainable power source development.

Along with the role of chairing the sub-committee, EVNGENCO1 is also present at Techshow 2025 with a technology display booth, introducing digital equipment and solutions being deployed at many factories in the Corporation, contributing to clearly demonstrating the orientation of autonomy, innovation and application of science and technology into practical operations.

EVNGENCO1 continues to affirm its leading role and practical contributions to the strategy of ensuring energy security, improving system operation efficiency and modernizing Vietnam's electricity industry in the period of strong transition of global energy.

In-depth scientific forum, reflecting key technology trends

According to the program, the sub-committee worked throughout the day with 12 scientific reports on key areas: offshore wind power, advanced coal-gas thermal power technology, clean fuel co-firing (ammonia/hydrogen), LNG, nuclear power, hydropower and AI-based equipment monitoring technology. These are the contents that play a decisive role in Vietnam's energy transition roadmap and emission reduction goals.

The morning session opened with studies on offshore wind power - a field that is receiving great attention from the Government and international investors. The study on determining the optimal location based on the correlation between supply and demand and the impact on the domestic electricity market was commented to have a new approach, linking power source development with system stability.

Next is about smart offshore wind turbines presenting world technology trends, from carbon blades to smart operation and maintenance on AI and digital twin platforms.

Coal-fired thermal power plants offer many practical innovative solutions such as improving steam turbine flow and optimizing supercritical pulverized coal combustion systems for unstable quality coal - a problem facing many plants in Vietnam.

A major highlight was the report by IHI (Japan) on 20% ammonia co-firing at a 1,000 MW unit, marking an important step forward in reducing CO₂ emissions by fuel switching at existing plants. This is the first successful test result in the world and is considered an important suggestion for Vietnam in its decarbonization roadmap.

In the gas-fired power sector, Mitsubishi Power introduced JAC gas turbine technology and CO₂ ZERO solutions, aiming at the future use of hydrogen and ammonia. These contents are assessed to be suitable for the process of preparing the national LNG infrastructure.

Along with that, in the sub-committee's program is a series of important reports on advanced PWR reactor technology, optimal LNG gas supply solutions, 94% localized electrostatic precipitators, real-time inter-hydropower reservoir operation, and AI-based partial discharge monitoring.
