Implementing the 2025 foreign affairs program, from November 23-27, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health delegation led by Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen paid a working visit to Mexico, marking an important activity in a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Mexico diplomatic relations (1975-2025).
According to a VNA correspondent in Mexico, the working trip not only reaffirmed the friendship and political trust between the two countries, but also created new momentum to promote substantive cooperation in the health sector, especially traditional medicine and acupuncture - one of the symbolic fields of the strong relationship between the two countries over the years.
During the visit, the delegation visited and worked with the Mexican Ministry of Health, worked with the Mexican Labor Party (PT) Leadership, visited and worked at Zacatecas University, visited the Ho Chi Minh Acupuncture Center in Mexico City, Zacatecas city, visited the Center for Early Childhood Education Development (CENDI) and Tierrra y Libertad Hospital in Monterrey city.
During the talks with Mexican Health Minister David Kershenobich Stalnikowitz, the two sides reviewed the health cooperation process between the two countries over the past two decades since the Health Cooperation Agreement was signed in 2004.

Leaders of the Mexican Ministry of Health highly appreciated the role of Vietnamese traditional medicine in public health care, emphasizing that the acupuncture centers named after President Ho Chi Minh in Mexico City and Monterrey have become trusted addresses for local people.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen informed about major orientations in reforming Vietnam's health system, including shifting from treatment to prevention, implementing periodic health check-ups for the whole population from 2026, promoting digital transformation and electronic health records, developing traditional medicine on par with modern medicine, and strengthening international cooperation to improve the capacity of the health system.
At the meeting attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai and Ms. Ana Karina Rojo Pimente, Chairwoman of the Mexico-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group and Chairwoman of the Mexican House of Representatives Welfare Committee, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen emphasized that Vietnam is ready to share experiences and expand cooperation with Mexico on the basis of trust and efficiency.
Based on common concerns and similarities in health development, at the meeting, the two countries' Health Ministries officially signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the health sector, replacing the 2004 Agreement.
Accordingly, the two agencies will strengthen cooperation in potential areas including: traditional medicine such as acupuncture, medicinal herb development, medicine from medicinal herbs; expert exchange, doctor training, scientific research; pharmaceutical trade promotion; medical tourism development.
Meanwhile, at the meeting and working session with Mr. Alberto Anaya Gutiérrez, General Secretary of the Mexican Labor Party (PT) and the PT leadership, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen highly appreciated the PT Party's support for the cooperation activities between the Vietnamese Ministry of Health and the Mexican Ministry of Health in general, as well as the support for the Vietnam Central Acupuncture Hospital to maintain the effective operation of the two Ho Chi Minh City acupuncture centers in Mexico.
Acknowledging the success of the cooperation model in the field of acupuncture between the Central Acupuncture Hospital of Vietnam and the PT Party, Secretary General Alberto Anaya Gutiérrez said that over the past two decades, hundreds of Vietnamese acupuncturists have treated more than 300,000 Mexican patients, including successfully treating many serious illnesses such as stroke, peripheral nerve paralysis, encephalitis, and cerebral palsy.

These achievements are highly appreciated by medical professionals in Mexico.
Also at the meeting, the Central Acupuncture Hospital and the Mexican Labor Party signed a cooperation agreement to tighten and strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two sides in the new situation.
During the visit to Mexico, the delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health also visited and worked with the Board of Directors of Zacatecas University in the state of the same name, witnessing the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Central Acupuncture Hospital and Zacatecas University.
Previously, the delegation worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico and laid flowers at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in the Freedom Park of the Peoples in the center of Mexico City./.
