Dolls are a familiar image and have been present for a long time in the history of Japan. According to Japanese concept, dolls symbolize luck, peace and happiness.

Traditional Japanese dolls come in many colors, designs, and are divided into many types for different social purposes. Each doll is an emotional and intellectual work of art, expressing the life and worldview of the artisan who created it.

Through many different stages, with ingenuity and meticulousness, artisans from the "land of the rising sun" have breathed life into their works to create dolls of high artistic and creative value.

Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Cam - Director of Hoi An City Culture, Sports and Information Center informed that this exhibition in Hoi An displays 29 traditional doll works, from dolls in gorgeous costumes to simple Kokeshi wooden dolls with pure beauty.

This collection not only highlights the outstanding aspects of Japanese culture but also shows the beauty of the soul and spirit of a nation.

Coming to the opening program of the "Japanese Doll" Exhibition in Hoi An, the audience also visited the Japanese Cultural Exhibition House, experienced interesting Tea Ceremony and Origami paper folding activities.

In another space in Hoi An Ancient Town, at 39 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, the exhibition “Dialogue with Ukiyo-e paintings” is considered a “new breeze” of creativity based on inspiration from long-standing traditions.

It is a story of creative flows that are spread, connected in further spaces, across countries and “dialogued” through culture.

It is known that the project "From tradition to tradition" started and launched in Hanoi in 2020, after many times of research and interaction with Hang Trong paintings, the project has achieved more and more results.

Through “Dialogue with Ukiyo-e”, the artists of the project want to continue the dialogue with traditional Japanese art, specifically Ukiyo-e. This genre can be said to fully convey the quintessence of Japanese creativity and spirit.

Young, talented Vietnamese artists have researched and harmoniously combined traditional Vietnamese culture with Ukiyo-e woodblock prints.

From ideas about familiar Vietnamese art materials such as Do paper, lacquer, silk... combined with the quintessential values in creativity as well as the Japanese spirit of wood paintings have brought unique creations, carrying the breath of the times.

Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Cam said that through the exhibition, Hoi An is once again affirmed as a place that attracts experts, artists, and creators to settle down, live, and create.

Since then, the creative source has always been preserved and continued on this land, supporting Hoi An on the path to integrating into UNESCO's global creative cities network.

The exhibition “Japanese Dolls” and “Dialogue with Ukiyo-e Paintings” is open free of charge to the public and visitors until August 4. The exhibition is considered by art lovers as a space of convergence of creative quintessence and spiritual harmony between Vietnam and Japan.
