From May 16th to 19th, the Global Chefs Challenge Finals 2026 took place at the International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) in Newport, Wales (United Kingdom) as part of the World Chefs Association Congress, bringing together over 1,000 chefs and thousands of culinary experts from more than 100 countries and territories.
This year's competition includes several categories for professional chefs, young chefs, pastry chefs, and vegetarian chefs. Among them, the Global Chefs Challenge is considered the most prestigious category, where chefs can compete using their professional skills, creativity, and international competition spirit.
To qualify for the world finals, teams must overcome the continental regional qualifiers taking place in 2025. In the Asian region, Vietnam and Singapore are the two teams with the highest scores, surpassing 14 countries and over 100 chefs to represent the region in the finals in Wales.
Representing Vietnam at this year's competition are chef Trinh Tuan Dung and assistant chef Le Dac Minh Quan, both members of the Saigon Professional Chefs Association. Previously, the team won a Gold Medal at the Asian regional qualifiers.
In the final round, the Vietnamese team competed against 15 outstanding chefs from many countries with long-standing culinary traditions. Despite participating in this competition for the first time, the Vietnamese team impressed with their professional style, well-coordinated teamwork, and creativity in each dish.
In the end, the Vietnamese team reached the top 8 in the world and won a Silver Medal in the Global Chefs Challenge category. This also marks the first time Vietnam has had a chef participate in and achieve such a high ranking in the Global Chefs Challenge finals.

Ms. Tran Thi Hien Minh, Vice President of the Saigon Professional Chefs Association and Vice President of the Vietnam Baking Association, stated that this achievement is a memorable milestone for the Vietnamese culinary profession on its journey towards international integration. This accomplishment once again affirms that the country's chefs are becoming increasingly professional, confidently integrating while still preserving the unique identity of Vietnamese cuisine. "The chefs have undergone rigorous training, continuously improving their techniques, presentation skills, and international competition capabilities. A top 8 finish in the world is a well-deserved result for the persistent efforts of the entire team," Ms. Tran Thi Hien Minh shared.
To recognize the team's achievements, the Saigon Professional Chefs Association, the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, and the Culinary and Tourism Development Committee have proposed that the President of the Vietnam Tourism Association consider awarding certificates of merit to chefs Trinh Tuan Dung, Le Dac Minh Quan, and Van Phu Phuong Dung, who made significant contributions to training the team for the world finals.
