(HG) - In order to implement the action plan and respond to climate change regarding rising sea levels and saltwater intrusion, and at the same time provide surface water with guaranteed quality regularly for clean water treatment plants in Hau Giang province; the province has built and put into operation and used a freshwater reservoir with a total investment of nearly 183.2 billion VND from the central and local budgets.

The Hau Giang freshwater reservoir is located in Vinh Tuong commune, Vi Thuy district, with a total land area of 50 hectares, of which the lake surface area is 21 hectares, the dam height is 7.5m, the dam length is 1,917m, and the largest water storage capacity of the lake is 982,254m3. This project ensures a source of domestic water for people in Vi Thuy district and some neighboring areas such as Vi Thanh city, Long My district and Chau Thanh A district. It is estimated that more than 260,000 households in Hau Giang will benefit from this project.
According to the assessment of the functional sector, the project will create a static water storage area, basically treat the amount of alluvium and turbidity, and greatly reduce the cost of building a water treatment plant in water filtration. In addition, the project also creates conditions for the development of eco- tourism and green tourism in the river area, contributing to the conservation and development of natural aquatic resources and improving the landscape and natural environment in the area; At the same time, it is possible to study the use of the lake surface space to invest in solar power.
