Strengthening trade promotion, creating new momentum in the expanded economic space

After the merger, the new Phu Tho province with an area of over 9,361 km2 and a population of over 4 million has become a connecting center for the midland and mountainous regions of the North. The province also possesses a wide open development space and a synchronous infrastructure system. In this context, trade promotion activities play a key role in restructuring the production and export value chain, improving the competitiveness of enterprises and promoting local trade and services.

Strengthening trade promotion, creating new momentum in the expanded economic space

According to the assessment, by 2025, the province's processing and manufacturing industries will have a growth rate of nearly 30% compared to the previous year.

Raising export platform, opening new market space

According to the assessment, in 2025, the industrial production value of the whole province will increase by 26.8%. Of which, the processing and manufacturing industries will increase by 29.3%; export turnover is estimated at 36.8 billion USD, up 5% over the previous year, maintaining a stable trade surplus. Key commodity groups such as electronic components, wood, processed agricultural products and textiles will continue to maintain market share in traditional markets such as the US, EU, Japan, Korea, while expanding to India, the Middle East and South Africa. Customs statistics show a strong expansion of the province's trade activities in 2025. In October 2025 alone, export turnover reached 3.117 billion USD, import reached 3.111 billion USD, reflecting the balance in the trade balance of goods. By the end of October 2025, the province's exports reached 29.684 billion USD, imports reached 30.643 billion USD, bringing the total import-export turnover of the whole province to 60.327 billion USD. According to Mr. Duong Quoc Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of the province: This scale clearly affirms the leading role of the processing - manufacturing and FDI enterprises in forming the main industrial - commercial axis of the province. Along with that, the tea group - one of the traditional industries of the province is facing great opportunities in Saudi Arabia, a market that imports more than 30,000 tons of tea per year and has a long-standing tea consumption culture. Most recently, at the conference connecting export trade between the Northeastern provinces with the Middle East market held on November 28, 2025, the representative of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade emphasized: Trade promotion activities have supported businesses to promote products, develop the domestic market and expand export markets. The province's strong products are supported to build brands, improve quality and put into modern distribution channels, opening up increasingly wider consumption opportunities. To achieve these highlights, the province has focused on innovating trade promotion activities; digitizing, linking regions, connecting export trade between provinces with international markets. In particular, focusing on expanding exports towards new markets.

Strengthening trade promotion, creating new momentum in the expanded economic space

Tea products are the province's traditional key products and are also receiving heavy investment with in-depth investment in processing technology to improve product quality.

According to the assessment, the period 2021 - 2025 witnessed many major fluctuations such as geopolitical conflicts, fluctuations in raw material prices, high logistics costs and the need to green the supply chain. Faced with this challenge, Phu Tho has also proactively transformed its trade promotion methods, harmoniously combining direct and online models, applying digital technology, market database systems and cross-border e-commerce platforms. The whole province has edited and published 66 industry and trade newsletters, 58,000 OCOP leaflets, and developed 83 propaganda reports to enhance the recognition of local products. To date, 209 OCOP products of the province have entered the supermarket system, convenience stores and major e-commerce platforms, reflecting the increasingly clear role of trade promotion in the consumption of goods.

Green promotion - digitalization - regional connectivity - key market expansion

According to Mr. Duong Quoc Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, with the advantage of expanded development space after rearranging administrative boundaries, streamlined apparatus, improved quality of civil servants and strong digital transformation throughout the system, we have enough basis to believe that the staff, civil servants, public employees and workers of the Department will meet the requirements of the tasks in the new period. Especially in the context of increasingly strict import market requirements, many local enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, still face difficulties in traceability, green standards, digital trade skills and branding capacity.

Strengthening trade promotion, creating new momentum in the expanded economic space

Doan Hung specialty grapefruit continues to be supported to achieve and be granted high certifications for product quality as well as safe production.

To overcome these difficulties and obstacles, the province has recently organized 17 training courses on trade promotion, international integration and digital business skills for more than 800 enterprises and cooperatives. QR stamp programs, packaging support, guidance on achieving HACCP, GlobalGAP, ISO certification... have been implemented for products such as Long Coc tea, Doan Hung grapefruit, sour meat, Thuong Tien honey, Cao Phong oranges... In the coming period, Phu Tho province has identified trade promotion as one of the strategic breakthroughs. Accordingly, to meet the requirements, trade promotion activities will focus on green - digital - regional linkage - global orientation; prioritizing investment in key products, developing modern e-commerce and building a digital promotion ecosystem to bring Phu Tho province's products deeper into the global value chain. Key objectives include maintaining traditional markets such as the US, EU, Japan, Korea, and China. At the same time, expand to India, the Middle East and South Africa; build a closed value chain for the tea, wood and electronic components industries; develop concentrated processing industrial clusters and logistics ecosystems; and perfect the digital trade promotion data platform.

It can be said that, with the proactiveness of the government and the adaptation of the business community, Phu Tho is gradually affirming itself as a modern industrial and commercial center of the Northern midland and mountainous region when the economic space expands.
