Speed up vaccination progress to protect livestock at the end of the year

Localities in Ho Chi Minh City are accelerating the second phase of vaccination in 2025 to increase community immunity and protect livestock from the risk of disease during the year-end weather period.

The end of the year is always a sensitive period for the livestock industry when the weather changes erratically, temperature and humidity fluctuate strongly, creating conditions for many dangerous pathogens to arise. Faced with that risk, the People's Committee of Phuoc Thanh Commune, Ho Chi Minh City has proactively deployed the second phase of livestock and poultry vaccination in 2025 on a large scale and with high determination, aiming to improve community immunity and protect the stability of local livestock production.

Following the direction of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Ho Chi Minh City, Phuoc Thanh has developed an early organization plan, focusing on assigning specific tasks to each department and each vaccination team. The locality established 5 vaccination teams, and arranged forces directly to all 17 hamlets to ensure that no subjects are left out.

This time, the commune was provided with 86,000 doses of avian influenza, 1,400 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine (for pigs), 250 doses for cattle and buffalo, and 1,200 doses of classical swine fever, important vaccines to help prevent dangerous infectious diseases that often cause serious damage if not fully vaccinated.

Starting from November 29, 2025, vaccination teams were deployed simultaneously, closely following the previously reviewed list of the total herd. After 10 days of implementation, by December 8, the progress had reached 80% of the plan, evenly distributed among hamlets and exceeding the set requirements. This was the result of close coordination between local authorities, veterinary forces and the active cooperation of livestock farmers.

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, an expert from the Economic Department of Phuoc Thanh Commune, said: “This vaccination campaign is a key task to prevent epidemics during the peak season at the end of the year. We have reviewed the total herd early, made a list of vaccination subjects, prepared forms and closely coordinated with the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Region 6 to ensure technical procedures. The goal is not only to complete 100% of the plan, but also to build a disease-free livestock farming area in the future.”

Meanwhile, the grassroots veterinary force is the one who directly "goes to every alley, knocks on every cage", ensuring that each animal is fully vaccinated. Mr. Le Khac Nghia, a commune veterinary officer, Head of Vaccination Team No. 2, shared that the work these days is very stressful: "We work continuously from morning to afternoon, going to each household, counting each animal. There are households raising thousands of poultry, having to work in groups to ensure safety and follow the process. Luckily, the people cooperate very well, creating conditions for the vaccination team to complete the task."

Not only organizing vaccinations, the commune also strengthens instructions for people to clean barns and take care of animals before and after vaccination to minimize side effects, while raising public awareness about proactive disease prevention.

In addition to the local efforts, the Regional Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station 6 plays a technical supervision role throughout the vaccination campaign. Mr. Nguyen Ba Trung, Deputy Head of the station, highly appreciated the local approach: “Phuoc Thanh implemented very systematically, starting as soon as the vaccine was received. Establishing 5 vaccination teams is a reasonable approach, helping to shorten the time and reduce pressure on the veterinary force. We always follow closely to provide technical support, ensure proper storage of vaccines and promptly handle arising situations.”

In the coming time, to achieve the goal of completing 100% of the plan, the commune will continue to promote propaganda on the loudspeaker system and community social networking channels, coordinate with the Executive Board of hamlets to review each household to avoid missing subjects. Statistics and data updates are continuously carried out to accurately assess progress and promptly adjust implementation measures.

With the synchronous participation of the government, veterinary forces and people, the second vaccination campaign in 2025 in Phuoc Thanh is approaching the set target, creating an important foundation for the locality to maintain disease safety during the peak season at the end of the year and towards building a sustainable disease-free livestock farming area in the coming years.
