Báo Bình DươngBáo Bình Dương18/04/2023

In recent days, there have been many occupational accidents (OAs) leading to death in the province. The consequences of these accidents are huge. This requires employers and employees to pay more attention to ensuring safety during work.

Recently, a work accident occurred at a construction site in Di An City, resulting in one death. The initial cause was determined to be that the victim was electrocuted while moving on a metal roof. Also in April 2023, at a construction site in Thuan An City, a woman fell from a height to the ground and died.

According to data from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2022, according to reports from 62 provinces and cities, there were 7,718 occupational accidents nationwide, an increase of 1,214 cases, equivalent to 18.66% compared to 2021. The result was 7,923 victims (nearly 19%), including both areas with labor relations and areas where workers did not work under labor contracts. Of which, the number of fatal occupational accidents was 720 cases; the number of deaths was 754 people.

Notably, according to national statistics, Binh Duong is one of the localities with a high number of occupational accidents. Specifically, in 2022, the number of occupational accidents in areas with labor relations and areas where workers do not work under labor contracts in Binh Duong was 444 cases, of which the number of victims was 451, the number of deaths was 38, resulting in 41 deaths and 37 injuries. Binh Duong is the third locality in terms of the number of deaths due to occupational accidents. Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi ranked first and second respectively.

Notably, there were some serious incidents such as the work accident that occurred in the cleaning area of a company in Tan Uyen City, which left one person dead and three injured. The cause was determined to be a door that hit a worker and started a fire. Or the accident that occurred in Minh Tan Commune, Dau Tieng District, which left two people dead…

On April 7, 2023, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs issued a notice on the situation of occupational accidents in 2022 and proposed a number of solutions to prevent incidents and occupational accidents in 2023. Accordingly, it is requested that ministries and branches direct enterprises in their sectors and management fields to proactively inspect occupational safety and hygiene (OSH); coordinate with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to inspect and examine enterprises operating in fields with high risks of occupational accidents and serious incidents.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs also requested the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct local authorities to strengthen inspection and examination of compliance with occupational safety and health regulations of enterprises in the area, especially in areas with high risks of occupational accidents and serious incidents. Pay attention to activities of developing safe working procedures and measures at enterprises. Report occupational accidents according to the Law on Occupational Safety and Health.

Strengthen the organization of propaganda and dissemination of knowledge and laws on occupational safety and health in accordance with each field and profession. Prioritize the propaganda and dissemination of laws on occupational safety and health for workers who do not work under labor contracts. Strengthen the organization of occupational accident investigations for workers who do not work under labor contracts. Organize occupational safety and health training for workers. Propaganda and mobilize employers to pay attention to the development of internal regulations, processes, and measures to ensure occupational safety and health, and improve working conditions at the workplace. Organize propaganda and dissemination of the Law on Occupational Safety and Health for members. Use personal protective equipment at work to minimize occupational accidents, ensure safety, health and life for workers...

The above solutions aim to ensure safety for workers, minimize accidents, impact on workers' lives and health as well as subsequent consequences.
