To make exams less of a "burden"

The high school graduation exam is not simply a knowledge test, but a crucial turning point in each student's academic journey and future orientation. The exam results serve both as a basis for graduation and as a "ticket" for students to access higher education, vocational training, or enter the labor market.

In the context of the new curriculum focusing on developing competencies and qualities, the 2026 exam also serves to assess students' adaptability to the new learning method – learning to understand and apply, rather than just memorizing. Simultaneously, it acts as a measure of the quality of teaching in schools and the effectiveness of local educational management. Therefore, the exam is not only important for individuals but also has a broader impact on the entire education system.

Despite numerous improvements, organizing the high school graduation exam still faces many difficulties, especially in large cities like Hanoi. First and foremost is the pressure of scale. The large number of candidates leads to significant demands on facilities, exam venues, exam rooms, and invigilators. Ensuring sufficient standard exam rooms, assigning invigilators, security personnel, and medical staff remains a complex challenge. Furthermore, changes in the exam structure towards competency-based assessment require both teachers and students to adapt. Many students still struggle with high-level application questions requiring comprehensive thinking. Many students face pressure from high expectations from their families and society, easily leading to stress and imbalance. Meanwhile, the coordination between schools and parents in providing psychological support to students is sometimes not truly effective…

To ensure that the 2026 high school graduation exam is conducted safely, seriously, and effectively, a coordinated effort from the education sector, local authorities, schools, and families is needed.

First and foremost, preparations need to be implemented early, thoroughly, and realistically. Hanoi needs to continue reviewing and supplementing facilities, ensuring that each examination site meets the requirements for safety, fraud prevention, and provides the most favorable conditions for candidates. In particular, as directed by the Ministry of Education and Training , one of the important requirements is to organize inspection activities flexibly, adapting to the actual situation, ensuring no omissions, gaps, or reactive responses. The formation of inspection teams needs to be scientific and rational, avoiding overlaps and unnecessary pressure on the facilities.

Furthermore, it is necessary to promote community responsibility, strengthen coordination, and share responsibility in organizing the exam between the Department of Education and Training and educational institutions. This close collaboration will contribute to improving management efficiency and creating uniformity in task implementation.

Professionally, schools need to adjust their review methods to align with the spirit of the new curriculum. Instead of teaching "tricks" for answering questions, emphasis should be placed on reinforcing fundamental knowledge, developing critical thinking skills, and fostering practical application abilities. Teachers should play a guiding role, helping students understand the essence of the problem, thereby building confidence in tackling all types of questions.

Providing complete and timely information to students and parents is also crucial. By understanding exam regulations, schedules, and admission procedures, students will reduce anxiety and be able to plan their studies accordingly. Effective counseling and support channels should be utilized, especially during the final stages of preparation.

Ultimately, each student must be the main subject of the preparation process. Proactively grasping information, taking initiative in revision, and managing stress are key to entering the exam with maximum confidence. "Be proactive to succeed" is not just a slogan for the exam, but also essential preparation for a long-term academic and career journey.

The 2026 high school graduation exam is therefore not only a destination, but also the starting point for new journeys. When each stage is carefully prepared and each individual is proactive, the exam will truly become an opportunity to affirm abilities and open up a future.
