To help teachers feel secure in their dedication

In recent days, the salary policy for teachers has received great attention from society.

The Party and the State have always affirmed the important role of the teaching staff through specific and practical policies. 2024 marks a turning point when from July 1, 2024, the basic salary will increase by 30%, from 1.8 million to 2.34 million VND/month - the highest increase ever. On August 22, 2025, the Politburo issued Resolution 71-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in education and training development. For the first time, the Party affirmed that education and training are the decisive factors in the destiny of the nation. The Resolution commits to increasing vocational incentives to at least 70% and 100% for teachers in extremely difficult areas.

On June 16, 2025, the National Assembly passed the Law on Teachers with 451/460 delegates in favor. This is the first time Vietnam has had a separate law for teachers, affirming the special position of teachers in society. The law stipulates that teachers' salaries are ranked highest in the administrative career salary scale system, along with many other breakthrough policies.

However, we must frankly admit that despite many good policies, the lives of a number of teachers, especially in disadvantaged areas, are still stressful. Despite a 30% salary increase, total income is not really enough to ensure a stable life, especially in big cities. Many young teachers are still worried about housing and raising young children. In remote areas, the situation is more difficult. Although there are allowances, the lack of conditions and being far from family make many young teachers reluctant to stay long-term. This is a reality that the whole society sees and worries about.

In this context, the Ministry of Education and Training proposed a specific salary coefficient while the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed to continue the allowance mechanism. These are two different approaches for the same purpose. The Ministry of Home Affairs' viewpoint is reasonable when maintaining a common salary table to simplify management and facilitate job transfers. The allowance mechanism is flexible and can be adjusted according to regions. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Training's viewpoint comes from practical concerns because the specific salary coefficient clearly shows the specificity of the teaching profession, creating a difference in income to attract talented people in the context of many high-paying industries. Both come from good wishes and the important thing is to find a harmonious solution.

To find a suitable solution, it is necessary to clarify whether the current actual income is enough to ensure life and attract talented people. If choosing to increase allowances, there needs to be a specific roadmap and a clear commitment on time and budget sources. Special priority is given to teachers in difficult areas with practical support policies on housing, transportation, and health care. Immediately implement urgent measures such as increasing overtime teaching allowances and housing support for young teachers.

What society wants is for agencies to continue dialogue and listen to teachers to find the most effective and harmonious solutions. It is not necessary to immediately agree on the form, but it is important to ensure sufficient income for teachers to feel secure in their dedication. Teaching is a profession of "growing people", nurturing souls, and shaping the future of the young generation. Investing in teachers is not a cost but an investment in the future of the nation.

The Party and the State have been, are and will continue to care for the teaching staff. What remains is how to make good policies come into life soon, helping teachers, especially in remote areas, have enough conditions to feel secure in their profession and continue to devote themselves.
