Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) has just proposed the Ministry of Transport to invest in and upgrade two major cargo stations: Song Than ( Binh Duong ) and Cao Xa (Hai Duong).
Accordingly, Song Than cargo yard is proposed to renovate loading and unloading routes, expand the cargo yard area to more than 21,000 m2, renovate internal roads and add a 2,005 m2 cargo yard, and build new operating, customs, border and police buildings.
At An Binh cargo yard at Song Than station, VNR proposed to build a new 337 m loading and unloading road, adding a 7,126 m2 cargo yard. The total estimated investment is 150 billion VND (excluding site clearance costs).
Song Than Station, part of the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line, is currently the largest cargo station in the South, specializing in loading and unloading goods to and from the entire southern provinces and is one of six international transit stations serving the import and export of goods by rail between Vietnam - China and vice versa.

At Cao Xa station (Hai Duong), VNR proposed to renovate the loading and unloading road about 600 m long, build a new loading and unloading road about 250 m long; build a new office building, customs service, warehouse of 1,000 m2, and cargo yard of 10,000 m2. The total investment is 61 billion VND (excluding site clearance costs).
After completing the construction investment with the above scale, VNR will continue to research and invest in upgrading and completing the Cao Xa station complex, expanding the warehouse by 10,000 m2, and the cargo yard by 28,600 m2. The total estimated investment for this phase is 234 billion VND.
According to Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR), after many years of operation, railway infrastructure items at Song Than and Cao Xa stations such as railways, warehouses, cargo yards, drainage systems... have degraded and are not capable of meeting the demand for rail freight transport in the area.
