Proposal to double fines for food safety violations

(QNgTV) - Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that they are studying to double the penalty for violations of regulations on self-declaration, registration of declarations or use of materials of unknown origin.

This proposal is aimed at dealing with the situation of poor quality food of unknown origin that is flooding the market. In reality, dirty food still surrounds people, especially children, when many products without labels and of unknown origin are sold openly in front of school gates.

The Ministry proposed to increase the "dosage" of penalties from 1.2 to 2 times for many dangerous acts such as violating regulations on self-declaration and registration of product declarations; using raw materials of unknown origin; using food additives, banned substances, chemicals not on the permitted list; violating food safety conditions in food service businesses and regulations on advertising.

Using raw materials of unknown origin: Fine from 30 million to 40 million for individuals or from 60 million to 80 million for organizations; or may be fined from 1 to 2 times the value of the violating product in particularly serious cases.
