On April 25, Da Nang Oncology Hospital coordinated with the Vietnam Cancer Association, Hanoi K Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital and cancer prevention facilities to organize the 6th Da Nang City Cancer Prevention Conference in 2025 (every 2 years).
The report at the conference said that the International Cancer Registry (Globocan 2022) recorded an increasing trend in cancer incidence and mortality worldwide .
Every year, in Vietnam, there are nearly 180,500 new cases detected and more than 120,000 patients die from this disease. Thus, with the current total population (more than 100 million people), it is estimated that for every 100,000 people, there are 180 newly diagnosed cancer cases and 120 deaths from cancer.
The World Health Organization predicts that by 2040, the number of new cancer cases in Vietnam will increase by about 59.4%, and the number of cancer deaths will increase by about 70.3%.

According to experts, although Vietnam's new cancer incidence rate is not among the highest in the world, the mortality rate is still alarming, reflecting the fact that many patients are detected at a late stage, reducing the effectiveness of treatment.
According to the national survey on the burden of disease in Vietnam, 74.3% of the disease burden is due to non-communicable diseases, of which cancer is one of the top 10 causes of disease. The cost of cancer treatment is also a major economic burden for the whole society. Spending on cancer drugs in 2023 is 7,521 billion VND, ranking first in the total drug payment from the health insurance fund.
New advances in cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention
Speaking at the conference, specialist doctor Nguyen Thanh Hung, Director of Da Nang Oncology Hospital, said the conference is an opportunity for leading experts to exchange expertise, share experiences and contribute to the cancer prevention strategy in Vietnam.
Dr. Hung also affirmed the hospital's commitment to improving treatment capacity, developing early screening programs and strengthening professional cooperation to reduce the burden of disease for people in the Central Highlands and the whole country.
This conference focuses on updating the latest advances in cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention with key topics such as: Application of new technology in cancer diagnosis and early detection; advanced treatment methods of surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy; guidelines for personalized treatment and palliative care for cancer patients; promoting cooperation and improving the effectiveness of cancer prevention in the community.
The conference also gathered more than 100 scientific reports from experts, doctors, and researchers at home and abroad. Among them, there were many notable presentations from major cancer hospitals with actual clinical data in the treatment of breast, lung, colorectal, liver, cervical, head and neck, urinary tract, thyroid cancers...
