The unique values of Hoi An heritage, Vietnam has probably never ceased to be “hot” in the international media. Not only is Hoi An the safest destination in the world for solo travelers , it is also considered to have extremely affordable and reasonable costs.

The safest destination in the world

Located on the northern bank of the lower Thu Bon River, Hoi An is an ancient town in Quang Nam , more than 30 km from Da Nang city and 122 km from Hue. Hoi An leaves a lasting impression on visitors with its rows of ancient houses in turmeric yellow, the river shimmering with lanterns at night, and delicious, affordable food. A study conducted by Smoky Mountains magazine has identified the safest places in the world for solo travelers, with the ancient and quiet Hoi An topping the list. In Hoi An, not only does it have the lowest crime rate for solo travelers, but it also has cool weather, affordable prices, and unique traditional experiences. In addition to Hoi An, other safe destinations for solo travelers include Kyoto (Japan), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Madeira (Portugal), Queenstown (New Zealand), etc. Experts predict that the trend of traveling alone will explode this year. According to Google, the search term for solo travel has increased by 761% in recent times. This trend has emerged and exploded since the global pandemic broke out.

This has been proven by many travel companies reporting a surge in bookings from solo travelers. Solo trips are being initiated by groups of older, married women who want to get out and explore the world and do it without their spouses.

The world's cheapest famous destination

The UK's leading financial company, the Post Office, has just released its Global Holiday Cost Index, naming Hoi An as the world's cheapest long-haul destination in 2024. Last year, Hoi An ranked 6th. In the 18 years of publishing the rankings, 2024 is the first year Hoi An has topped the list. Other destinations are Cape Town and Kenya, ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively. Tamarindo, Costa Rica is the world's most expensive travel destination, ranked 40th; New York, USA ranked 39th. Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has a total basic spending cost of £51.18 (over VND1.5 million). In Cape Town, the figure is £54.35 (over VND1.6 million) and in Kenya it is £54.39 (over VND1.6 million). Meanwhile, holidaymakers in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, will have to shell out £158 for the same items. The Global Holiday Cost Index, which has been published annually for the past 18 years, ranks 40 global holiday destinations from cheapest to most expensive. The list is selected and ranked based on the cost of eight essential holiday items: a pint of beer, a three-course meal, dinner, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

Notably, this year's cost table shows that the prices of meals, drinks, and other tourist items have decreased significantly compared to 2023 in 25 out of 40 tourist destinations and cities in the ranking. This announcement is also a practical suggestion for tourists planning to go on vacation in 2024, especially in the context of the world economy continuing to be gloomy. Coming to Hoi An, if the Japanese Covered Bridge is an unmissable symbol, the live show "Hoi An Memories Show" is an outdoor art performance about the history, culture and identity of Hoi An, the soul of the unique cultural heritage here that visitors should definitely enjoy.
Having just officially joined the UNESCO Global Creative Cities Network, Hoi An has entered the top 7 most popular destinations in the world in 2024, thanks to its efforts to preserve and develop traditional culture.
Held on Hoi An Memory Island (200 Nguyen Tri Phuong Street, Hoi An City), the show has received “winged” compliments from many prestigious international newspapers such as Reuters for its uniqueness and impressive scale. In particular, the live show has also been recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization (Guinness) with the title of “the largest outdoor stage in Vietnam” and “the daily art performance with the largest number of actors in the world”./.
Yesterday afternoon (March 25), the world's leading travel application Booking.com also announced the top 10 destinations in Vietnam that Asia-Pacific tourists are most interested in in the first quarter of 2024. Hoi An is on this list along with the following destinations: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc, Hue and Mui Ne. The time tourists searched for destinations was from January 1 to March 31, and the tourists participating in the survey were 18 years old or older and were the ones who made decisions or planned the trip.
