The Tomb of Emperor Tự Đức (also known as Khiêm Lăng) covers an area of approximately 12 hectares and comprises numerous large and small structures that have been restored over several periods. Currently, three distinctive architectural structures within the complex are undergoing restoration.

The project "Preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the Tomb of King Tu Duc" (remaining part), with a total budget of over 99 billion VND, is being implemented with the following structures: Hoa Khiem Palace, Minh Khiem Hall, On Khiem Hall, the outer wall, the gate, the screen wall, etc.

Most of the structures are located within the royal palace complex, possessing historical value and the distinctive architectural style of the Nguyen dynasty. Among them, Hoa Khiem Palace is the largest structure – the place where the ancestral tablets of Emperor Tu Duc are worshipped.

Mr. Ho Huu Hanh, Director of Hue Relic Restoration Company, said that the restoration work on Hoa Khiem Palace has reached over 80%, and is currently completing the roofing and interior construction.

The Hoa Khiem Palace has been reinforced with curb foundations, steps, and stone pedestals, and the tiled floor has been restored. The project implementing unit has repaired the brick walls according to the existing condition; restored and repaired the wooden frame, roof, partitions, doors, connecting beams, wooden floors, and other wooden details using Group II wood.

The roof of the building was restored and covered with yellow glazed yin-yang tiles; the ridge, gable, niches, and animal figures were restored using enamel...

Behind and to the left of Hoa Khiem Palace is Minh Khiem Duong, also being renovated as part of this project. As of January 21st, the project has reached over 90% completion, currently undergoing tiling and lighting installation, and is expected to be finished before the Lunar New Year.

Minh Khiem Duong is considered one of the oldest theaters in Vietnam. In the past, it was the venue for artistic performances to entertain the king when he visited Khiem Palace.

In addition to restoring the Minh Khiem Duong building, the project also includes restoring and renovating the interior furnishings, upgrading the electrical and artistic lighting systems to serve the exhibition and recreation of the space, and organizing traditional music performances.

Regarding the On Khiem Duong structure (circled in red) located behind and to the right of Hoa Khiem Palace, the construction of the wooden frame has been carried out at the workshop of the Hue Relic Restoration Company. After the completion of Hoa Khiem Palace and Minh Khiem Duong, the construction unit will proceed with the restoration of the foundation and the reconstruction of On Khiem Duong according to the established procedure.

The Tomb of Emperor Tự Đức, built in 1864, is one of the most representative and typical examples of traditional Huế architectural landscape. This site comprises numerous structures and has undergone restoration using various funding sources. However, the Hòa Khiêm Palace, Minh Khiêm Hall, and Ôn Khiêm Hall have not been preserved or restored, suffering serious deterioration, and are therefore being renovated during this period.

The project "Preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc" (remaining part) is expected to be completed in early 2027. This will contribute to the preservation, conservation, and promotion of the value of the Hue Imperial Citadel Complex.
