In recent years, despite facing many difficulties such as high input material prices, complicated disease developments and unfavorable weather, the province's livestock industry has still maintained its growth momentum, with annual planning targets basically reaching and exceeding the set targets.
Specifically, by the end of 2024, the province's livestock industry will achieve a production value growth rate of about 5.39% and the proportion of pure livestock in agriculture will increase quite well and has now reached about 48.6%.
However, in addition to the achievements, the province's livestock industry also faces difficulties and challenges related to diseases, small-scale livestock farming, difficult to control and unsafe. Therefore, the disease situation in recent years has been quite complicated.
In 2025, many dangerous epidemics will continue to appear and develop complicatedly in livestock, such as foot-and-mouth disease in cattle; avian influenza occurring in 5 communes and wards; lumpy skin disease also recorded in some localities. In particular, African swine fever continues to develop complicatedly, causing many difficulties for disease prevention and control.
Faced with that situation, the Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine proactively advised the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Nghe An to synchronously deploy many solutions to prevent and control the epidemic.
Since the end of 2024, the unit has advised on the issuance of a Plan for disease prevention and control in livestock, poultry and aquatic products in 2025. Based on actual developments, the Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine continues to proactively propose to the Provincial People's Committee to issue 3 urgent dispatches and 1 directive to rectify and strengthen the work of disease prevention, control and treatment.

At the same time, the Department advised the Provincial People's Committee to organize online conferences on disease prevention and control; in particular, advised Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De - leader in charge of the agricultural sector, to directly inspect the grassroots, direct and guide epidemic prevention work in localities. At the same time, the unit also advised the Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Environment to establish working groups to directly go to the grassroots to urge and inspect the implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures.
In addition, the Department has also mobilized all cadres, civil servants and public employees to closely follow the grassroots, divide the areas in charge of each locality; closely coordinate with units under the Department of Agriculture and Environment, agricultural extension centers to directly support and guide localities to effectively implement disease prevention and control work.
Currently, dangerous epidemics such as foot-and-mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, avian influenza, rabies, etc. in the province have basically been controlled, with no new outbreaks. However, the situation with African swine fever is still quite complicated. Although some localities have completely controlled and declared the epidemic over, in some other places, the epidemic is still prolonged, complicated and has many potential risks of recurrence.
“With the unpredictable weather and the approaching winter, the risk of disease outbreaks is still very worrying. Diseases such as foot and mouth disease and lumpy skin disease are likely to recur in the near future. In particular, African swine fever has not yet been completely controlled, and the risk of further recurrence and outbreaks in the province still exists,” Mr. Tran Vo Ba, Deputy Head of the Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, worried.
