According to information from the General Department of Customs ( Ministry of Finance ) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in November, vegetable and fruit exports reached 500 million USD, down 17.9% compared to October but up 65.2% over the same period in 2022.
Accumulated statistics in 11 months, the total export value of the vegetable and fruit industry is estimated at 5.3 billion USD, an increase of 74.5% over the same period in 2022. Of which, the export value of fruits contributed the most, reaching over 3.5 billion USD.
Durian has the highest export value in the fruit and vegetable industry.
In the structure of exported fruit and vegetable products, durian, dragon fruit, banana, jackfruit, and mango are the five types of exported fruits with the highest value in the first 10 months of this year. Specifically, durian holds the "champion" position with 2.07 billion USD, up 606.3% over the same period in 2022; dragon fruit reached 523 million USD, down 5.2%; banana 242 million USD, down 5.7%; jackfruit 168 million USD, up 35.5%; mango 154 million USD, up 41.4%.
According to the General Department of Customs, the export of processed fruit and vegetable products in the first 10 months recorded an 18% growth compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 996.5 million USD. Of which, passion fruit achieved the highest value with 162 million USD; coconut 114 million USD; mango 60 million USD.
In the group of vegetables and tubers, the export value in 10 months reached 233.5 million USD, up 4.9% over the same period last year. Of which, the export of many types of vegetables and tubers increased, including: chili, cauliflower, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage; the export value of some types of vegetables and tubers decreased, including: sweet potatoes, corn.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , in the structure of exported fruit and vegetable products, the fruit group is still mainly concentrated in fresh and frozen form. For the specialized processing group, Vietnam has exploited many products well, however, some fruit products processed from coconut, pineapple, dragon fruit, custard apple, etc. have not yet exploited well in the export market.
Speaking to Thanh Nien , Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that although durian output has decreased, the export value of fruits and vegetables is estimated to reach 400 million USD in the last month of this year. Accordingly, this year's fruit and vegetable exports are "certain" to reach 5.5 - 5.6 billion USD.
"China is considering importing frozen fruits from Vietnam, including frozen durian products. If China grants a license by the end of this year, durian exports in 2024 will reach $3 billion," said Mr. Nguyen.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, China is a major export market for Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In the first 11 months of this year, agricultural, forestry and fishery trade between the two countries was estimated at 14.1 billion USD.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that China is considering four products, including medicinal herbs, coconuts, frozen fruits and watermelons, to sign a protocol to shift from traditional to official exports. If the protocols for these four products are implemented in the coming time, the export value of vegetables and fruits to China will increase sharply in 2024.
