'Golden meeting point' for city tourism

More than just an annual cultural and artistic event, the Red Flamboyant Flower Festival has gradually established itself as a "golden destination" for tourism in Northern Vietnam in recent years.

The appeal of event tourism

Every May, the Red Flamboyant Flower Festival becomes a peak tourist season in Hai Phong . In May 2025 alone, the city welcomed approximately 1.7 million visitors, accounting for more than 11.8% of the total annual visitor numbers.

This figure demonstrates the strong influence of event-based tourism. Festivals not only celebrate local culture but also act as a catalyst, stimulating demand for travel, leisure, and spending among tourists.

Ahead of the Red Flamboyant Flower Festival, Hai Phong is getting off to a good start with two holidays: the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and the April 30th and May 1st holidays. According to statistics from the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city welcomed over 1.4 million visitors, a 32% increase compared to the same period in 2025, with estimated revenue reaching 1,120 billion VND.

Several key tourist destinations, such as Cat Ba Island, Do Son Island, Con Son - Kiet Bac historical site, and Vu Yen urban and entertainment area, have seen a significant increase in visitor numbers thanks to convenient transportation, beautiful natural landscapes, and a diverse range of tourism products and services.

For this year's Red Flamboyant Flower Festival, the city's tourism industry is proactively developing diverse tour routes and experiences to provide tourists with many choices at reasonable prices, while especially highlighting the unique cultural values ​​of the port city.

Tour routes are no longer confined to the central area but are expanding along the East-West axis, connecting urban areas to coastal islands, from heritage sites to modern resorts. Examples include the Do Son tourism promotion program (May 2026), connecting Cat Ba - Do Son - Vu Yen tours, researching the Bach Long Vi island tourism route, and a tourism route connecting Con Son - Kiet Bac, Do Son, Cat Ba…

According to Mr. Tran Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong, it is expected that between 2,000 and 3,000 visitors will attend the 2026 Red Phoenix Flower Festival. The city's tourism industry has determined that visitors will not only come to attend the festival but also to experience tourism in both East and West Hai Phong.

From "high customer volume" to "customer retention"

In line with the city's development plan, tourism businesses and accommodation establishments are also entering the "peak season" with thorough preparation. From upgrading facilities and diversifying services to launching promotional packages, everything is aimed at enhancing the experience and "retaining" tourists for longer.

At the Dragon Hill International Tourist Area, one of the city's prominent destinations, comprehensive preparations are underway. Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc Loc, General Manager of Dream Dragon Resort, Dragon Hill International Tourist Area, stated: "In response to the 2026 Red Phoenix Flower Festival and the summer tourist season in Hai Phong, we are focusing on improving the quality of services at our hotels and resorts, while also perfecting our entertainment, dining, wellness, and beach experience products to offer tourists a wide range of choices during the peak season."

Not only Dragon Hill, but many other destinations such as VinWonders Vu Yen, tourism businesses in Cat Ba, the city center... are also "reinventing themselves" with distinctive tourism products, from developing night tours and culinary tourism to check-in spaces and street festivals... All aim to build the image of a dynamic, modern city that still retains its rich cultural identity.

For travel businesses, this is also a time to accelerate customer acquisition. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, General Director of Hai Ha Travel, shared that from the beginning of the first quarter, the company developed themed tour programs associated with the Red Phoenix Flower Festival, connecting destinations such as Do Son, Cat Ba, Con Son - Kiet Bac, and the city center. The proactive approach from travel agencies not only helps ensure a stable customer base but also contributes to professionalizing the service supply chain, creating a complete experience for tourists.
