A bright spot in Vietnam's music industry.

RMIT University Vietnam has just released its report "Overview of the Vietnamese Music Industry 2025-2026," featuring extensive and meticulous research and data. Within the broader context of global, Asian, and Southeast Asian music, the study highlights the Vietnamese music industry as a bright spot.

V-folktriotism – music that spreads patriotic spirit – is predicted to be one of the new trends in Vietnamese music in 2026.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Thang Long, head of the research team, emphasized: 2025 marks a spectacular transformation of the Vietnamese music market and cultural industry. This is not only an increase in quantity but also a remarkable leap in quality. This includes large-scale national and international events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the 80th anniversary of National Day, and a series of international performances. In addition, Vietnamese artists are continuously achieving impressive accomplishments, affirming the increasingly profound position and influence of Vietnamese music.

The report presents very impressive figures. Music streaming is projected to reach $27.54 million in 2025. YouTube, TikTok, and Spotify are the three most used platforms. According to statistics, pop music is the most popular genre among Vietnamese audiences (including V-pop, K-pop, US-UK Pop, C-Pop, and J-Pop…), followed by ballads, rap, R&B, and EDM. On average, Vietnamese people spend between 1 and under 2 hours listening to music per day. Vietnamese audiences spend the most on music subscriptions on digital music platforms (71.7%), followed by live events such as concerts, live shows, and fan meetings (60.9%).

The report presents many compelling examples, such as the Vietnamese music market asserting its strength in exchange and connection from domestic to international levels. "National concerts" with 25,000-50,000 attendees each night, such as "V Concert - Radiant Vietnam" or "Homeland in My Heart," not only enhance artistic quality but also demonstrate the growing demand for modern entertainment linked to national spirit. Internationally, Vietnamese artists are increasingly venturing into the world , such as singer My Linh launching her "Hello Tour 2025" in Japan, Duc Phuc winning first place at "Intervision 2025" in Russia, and Phuong My Chi achieving third place at "Sing! Asia 2025." Vietnam has also become a new destination for international artists: G-Dragon's "Übermensch world tour" with nearly 100,000 attendees, or the "Asia-Europe International New Music Festival 2025" with over 300 international artists…

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Thang Long also noted that behind this vibrant picture lie challenges in elevating the music industry to a new level. To truly compete with regional and global music industries, the market demands comprehensive professionalization, a sustainable development strategy, and above all, the shaping of a distinct and unique V-Pop identity. "It's time we not only organized large-scale events, but also built a cultural industry with depth and identity," Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Thang Long emphasized.
